Check your voicemail

You can both listen to and read transcriptions of your voicemail messages.

To create a voicemail greeting and check your voicemail from any forwarding phone, turn on voicemail access and set your PIN.

Check your voicemail in the iOS Phone app

When someone leaves you a voicemail, you get a notification from the iOS Phone app. To listen to your voicemail:

  1. Open the Phone app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap Voicemail.
  3. Tap a specific voicemail message to expand it.
  4. You can read the transcript or tap the play button to listen.

Tip: You can only have 45 voicemails saved on your phone at one time. If you reach the 45 message limit, you receive an SMS message that says "Please call {phone number}." To save a voicemail before you delete it, you can download it from the visual voicemail interface.

Alternate ways to check voicemail

Read or listen to voicemails in real time

A new feature in iOS 17 called Live Voicemail lets you read or listen to a voicemail while a caller leaves it. A transcript of the call appears on your screen. You can also choose to answer the phone in the middle of the voicemail.

To set it up:

  1. Go to your iPhone Settings.
  2. In the Settings menu, tap Phone πŸ‘ and then
    Live Voicemail.
  3. To turn it off or on, tap Live Voicemail.

Call your voicemail

If you can't access visual voicemail and would like to listen to it, touch and hold 1 in the dialer or call your own phone number.

  1. Open the Phone app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Dial your own mobile number.
  3. When prompted, enter your voicemail PIN.
  4. To listen to your voicemail, follow the prompts.
  5. Once you’re finished, you can end the call.

Tip: Messages recorded via live voicemail are currently only accessible through visual voicemail and not when dialing in.

Save your voicemail

  1. Open the Phone app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. At the bottom of the screen, tap Voicemail πŸ‘ and then
