Check your stats in real time while you use a workout video in the Google Health app. Stats include:

  • Current heart rate and heart-rate zone
  • Calories burned since you start the video
  • Active Zone Minutes earned since you start the video

To check real-time stats:

  1. On your phone, open the Google Health app πŸ‘ Image
    and tap the Fitness tab πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Choose a workout and tap to start.

Earn Active Zone Minutes πŸ‘ Image
or active minutes πŸ‘ Image
with heart-pumping activity throughout the day, which includes a brisk walk, run, or interval workout.

To start, your primary goal is 10,000 steps per day. When you hit this goal, your device vibrates, and a celebration appears on the screen. Choose to increase or decrease your step goal, or to change your goal to Active Zone Minutes or calories burned. You can also set goals in other areas such as sleep and hydration.

To change your goal, refer to How do I track my health and fitness goals with Fitbit?

You can log your health and fitness data, such as activity, weight, and nutrition, either by having a conversation with your Coach or by manually entering the information directly into the relevant areas of the app:

  • From the Today tab πŸ‘ Image
    , tap Log πŸ‘ Image
    under your focus metrics.
  • From the Fitness tab πŸ‘ Image
    , tap Log activity πŸ‘ Image
    to track your workout and movement.
  • From the Health tab πŸ‘ Image

    under your focus areas such as:
    • Sleep
    • Metabolic
    • Nutrition
    • Cycle
    • Fitness
    • Temperature

    from every available individual metric tile such as:

Share images and PDFs with your coach

Important: The coach can’t analyze diagnostic medical images or evaluate photos of physical symptoms to provide clinical assessments.

You can share images and PDFs in coaching conversations to save time. To get started, you can upload the following:

  • Meal and workout logs: Share photos to log your data quickly.
  • Medical records: Add records to your coaching conversations and get insights
  • Real-time support: Share a menu for healthy options, a training plan for your schedule, or equipment photos to ask about safety.

Log conversationally

You can create or update logs by telling the coach what you want to track.

Tap Ask Coach πŸ‘ Image
to start a new conversation with the coach.

To log data through conversation:

  1. Type or speak what you want to log. For example, β€œLog that I ate two scrambled eggs for breakfast.”
    Tip: You can also update an existing log. For example, β€œUpdate yesterday’s run from 5.3 miles to 4.7 miles.”
  2. Tap the submit arrow above the keyboard.

To log data with files:

  • To make logging faster, include images or PDFs. For example, β€œLog my breakfast” with an image of your breakfast.
    • From the coach conversation, you can tap Add πŸ‘ Image
      to take a photo, select gallery images, or browse files.
    • Use images to help log your data. You can share photos to track activities, sleep, food, weight, body fat, glucose, or hydration.
  • The coach may ask follow-up questions to gather required information and track your weekly targets. If this happens, provide the answers in the conversation.
  • Once the coach has the information it needs, it will confirm the action and summarize the log entry. Tap the log entry to check the full log details. To delete a log, tap the trash can at the top right of your log details screen.

Your coach can handle a wide range of general wellness questions. To help you get started or keep the conversation going, it also provides suggestions. You can ask about:

  • Analysis of and insights into your personal health data
    • Fitness stats
      • β€œTell me about my weekly steps.”
      • β€œIs my fitness improving?”
    • Health stats
      • β€œWhat’s my resting heart rate trend in the past year?”
    • Sleep patterns
      • β€œHow has my sleep been in the last month?”
  • Coaching toward specific health or fitness goals
    • β€œWhat can I do to increase my Cardio Load when working out?”
    • β€œReplace today's upper-body workout with a 4-mile run.”
  • Create custom workouts
    • Chat to coach, or Tap the Create Workout button to open a conversation with Ask Health. Simply describe the session you want, such as "Make me a 20-minute Pilates session," and your coach will generate a structured routine you can immediately play or save.

Change how my activities are tracked

Choose which activities your device tracks automatically, or change the amount of time needed to record the activity. For example, choose to turn off automatic tracking for a walk, or to record an outdoor bike ride after 15 minutes. Additionally, with easy logging, you can always capture your workouts after you’ve caught your breath.

To turn on activity detection in the Google Health app:

  1. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  2. Tap Google Health Settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Activity.
  3. Scroll down and turn on Activity detection.
  4. Under "Activity settings," tap an activity and then adjust the Minimum duration by activity type.
    • Or, you can turn off Detect automatically per activity type.

Fitbit Alta series

Fitbit Alta series automatically detects, recognizes and records high-movement activities. This feature is on by default. These activities include:

  • Walking
  • Running
  • Biking
  • Sports
  • Elliptical
  • Aerobics

Detected activities will appear under "Exercise days." You may edit these directly from the workout exercise summary.

  • Your device recognizes when you finish working out and asks you if you want to end the tracked workout session.
  • GPS is off by default for the Walk option.

Pixel Watch 3 and 4 automatically detects, recognizes and records high-movement activities. Most activities have a minimum duration of 10-15 minutes, but you can change this in Settings. These activities include:

  • Walk
  • Run
  • Bike
  • Sports
  • Elliptical
  • Rowing machine
  • Stationary bike

Activity detection will send you a notification on your watch and phone that your activity was detected, and your workout summary is ready. From the notification, you can tap to find the workout summary in the Google Health mobile app. Once you are in the workout summary, you can edit, delete or confirm your session details.

Tip: You can also get sessions detected by activity detection from the Today tab πŸ‘ Image
under "Exercise days."

To edit automatically tracked activities:

  1. Tap the activity from the notification, "Exercise days" in Today tab πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Select a workout from the suggested activities that matches what you did, then tap Confirm.
  3. To edit start time, duration, or access more activity options, you can tap Edit πŸ‘ Image
    to manually change the details of the activity.

Your device can recognize certain workouts and remind you to track your session after a few minutes. This will open the Exercise app on your device. To turn on this feature:

  1. Open the Exercise app πŸ‘ Image
    on your watch.
  2. Go to Settings πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. Go to Start workout reminders and turn on or off the specific activity types as desired.
  4. Start workout reminders are turned off by default but can be turned on or off manually. The next time your device detects this workout type, the Exercise app automatically opens.

Fitbit Inspire series
