Find & manage your recent chats in Gemini Apps
Important:
- To find and manage your chats in Gemini Apps, you need to sign in to Gemini Apps. Learn how to sign in.
- If you're using Gemini Apps with a personal account, the features below are only available if you have Keep Activity turned on.
- If you’re using Gemini Apps with a work or school account, your Gemini Apps Activity is controlled by your Google Workspace administrator and you can’t delete chats.
Find your pinned & recent chats
- On your phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app 👁 Image
or go to gemini.google.com. - At the top, tap Menu 👁 Image
. - Under "Recent,” you can find your pinned and recent chats.
Search for chats
- On your phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app 👁 Image
or go to gemini.google.com. - At the top, tap Menu 👁 Image
. - In the text box, enter what you want to search.
Pin a recent chat
- On your phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
- At the top, tap Menu 👁 Image
. - Under “Recent,” tap the chat you want to pin.
- At the top, tap More 👁 Image

. - Optionally, edit the name of your chat.
- Tap Pin. You can find your pinned chat at the top of the “Recent” section.
Unpin a chat
- On your phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
- At the top, tap Menu 👁 Image
. - Under “Recent,” tap the chat you want to unpin.
- At the top, tap More 👁 Image

Rename a chat
- On your phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
- At the top, tap Menu 👁 Image
. - Under “Recent,” tap the chat you want to rename.
- At the top, tap More 👁 Image

Branch a new conversation from a chat
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app 👁 Image
. - Start a new chat or open a chat you want to resume.
- Below a response, tap Menu 👁 Image
👁 and then
Branch in a new chat.
Tip: Deleting a branched chat doesn’t delete the original chat. Deleting the original chat doesn’t delete a branched chat.
Ask Gemini about your past chats
Important:
- To use this feature, you must:
- Sign in to your personal Google Account.
- Be 18 or older.
- Have Keep Activity and Memory settings on.
- For now, this feature isn't available in Live chats. In a text chat, you can ask Gemini to reference a past Gemini Live conversation.
In a new chat, you can ask Gemini about your past Gemini chats by topic or timeframe, or ask it to reference them before responding.
Try these example prompts:
- Summarize our discussions of the solar system.
- What was the gift we decided on for my son’s classmate’s birthday?
How to tell if Gemini referenced your past Gemini chats
If Gemini referenced your past chats for its response, you'll find "Previous chats" in "Sources and related content" below the response. Gemini may occasionally make mistakes and display this label incorrectly.
Delete a chat from pinned & recent chats
Important: When you delete a chat from your pinned and recent chats, it's also deleted from Gemini Apps Activity.
- On your phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
- At the top, tap Menu 👁 Image
. - Under “Recent,” tap the chat you want to delete.
- At the top, tap More 👁 Image

What happens when a chat is deleted
Important:
- To manage Gemini Apps Activity, you need to sign in to Gemini Apps. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
- This article covers Gemini Apps activity for a personal account. If you use Gemini Apps with a work or school account, your Gemini Apps Activity settings are controlled by your Google Workspace administrator. You may not be able to change your retention settings or see how long your chats are retained for Learn more about Gemini Apps activity for work and school users.
If you delete a chat in pinned and recent chats, it also deletes any content created in that chat (like Canvas docs and apps) and the related activity from Gemini Apps Activity. If data in Gemini Apps Activity is deleted, then the activity won't appear in recent and pinned chats.
