Update your Fitbit device

Fitbit release updates can add new features and help fix issues with your device. For more information, refer to What's changed in the latest Fitbit device update?

If you can't update your Fitbit, see Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

Tip: Google Health sends Fitbit device updates to everyone gradually over time. If there’s no update available, check again later.

Before you start, make sure your Fitbit is charged and that you have the latest version of the Google Health app on your phone or tablet. Here are some things to know:

  • If you update your Fitbit device right as the day changes (at midnight), your step count might be wrong for a day.
  • Updates may take more than one hour to complete.
  • To keep the update loading, keep the Google Health app running.

To update your Fitbit device:

  1. Open the Google Health app πŸ‘ Image
    with your Fitbit nearby.
  2. At the top left, tap Connections πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    your device.
  3. Tap Update.
    • Tip: This is only available when there's an update available.
  4. Follow the directions on the screen and keep your Fitbit close to your phone, tablet, or computer. After you start the update, a progress bar appears on your device and in the Google Health app until the update is complete.

For other issues, refer to Why can't I update my Fitbit device?

Important: You can’t use your watch while it’s updating.

  1. Swipe down, then tap Settings πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Tap System πŸ‘ and then
System updates. Your watch will check for updates.
  3. When the update is done, your watch will restart.

To update the Google Health app on your watch:

  1. Press the Crown.
  2. Swipe up to the Play Store app πŸ‘ Image
, then tap the app to open it.
  3. Swipe up and tap Manage apps.
  4. Tap Update all.

For more help, refer to Fix Bluetooth, connection, and LTE issues on Google Pixel Watch.

Your Fitbit scale checks for updates by itself. When there's an update, it downloads and installs it. If you get a progress bar on the scale that checks for updates, wait until it's finished before you weigh yourself.

  1. Open the Google Health app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. At the top left, tap Connections πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
your device. The version number is under your Fitbit's name.

Tip: On some Fitbit devices, you can find the version number in Settings πŸ‘ Settings app
πŸ‘ and then
About or Device Info.

You can find the software version of your watch in the settings.

  1. Swipe down, then tap Settings πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Tap System πŸ‘ and then
    About.
