Third-party app automations in the Google Home app

The Google Home app on your Android device lets you check and run automations created by third-party apps. Check the automations and manually run them from the Automations or Favorites tab. You can also check the automation history in the Activity tab.

Third-party automations should show up automatically in the Automations tab if:

  • You have an Android device.
  • You created automations in a compatible third-party app.

Check & run automations in the Automations tab

To manually start an automation:

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Tap Automations πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. Find the automation you want to start.
  4. Tap Play πŸ‘ Play arrow
    .
    • The automation tile will tell you if it ran successfully.

Start Automations in the Favorites tab

For quick and easy access to your third-party automations, add your automations to Favorites in the Home tab.

To manually start an automation:

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  3. Tap Home πŸ‘ Image
     πŸ‘ and then
    Favorites πŸ‘ Image
    .
  4. Choose the automation you want to start.
  5. Tap the automation’s tile to start.
    • The automation tile will tell you if it ran successfully.

Tip: Any home member can run third-party automations from the Automations or Favorites tab on an Android device, even without the third-party apps installed.

Edit or delete third-party automations

Important: If you disconnect a third-party application, it won't delete the automations created through the app.

To edit a third-party automation, youβ€˜ll need to go to the third-party application that created the automation.

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Tap Automations πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    the automation you want to delete. You’ll get a message with the name of the app that created the automation.
  3. Tap Delete to confirm that you want to delete the automation or Okay to close.

On your Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  3. Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google device.

  4. Tap Home πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    All devices πŸ‘ Image
    , then touch and hold your device's tile.
  5. Tap Settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Linked apps πŸ‘ and then
    the app you want to disconnect.
  6. Tap Unlink home & remove access to confirm your choice.

On your Google Account

  1. Sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Tap Data & Privacy πŸ‘ and then
    Third party apps & services πŸ‘ and then
    the app you want to disconnect.
  3. Delete all connections you have with the app.
  4. Tap Confirm.

Check third-party automations history

To check the history of third-party automations:

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Image
    .

  2. Tap Activity πŸ‘ Image
    .

    • You can scroll through the complete events list, or select device, event, or date filters at the top.

Troubleshoot third-party automations

Unlink devices

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  3. Tap Home settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Works with Google.
  4. Under β€œLinked,” tap the third-party device πŸ‘ and then
    Unlink account πŸ‘ and then
    Unlink.

Relink devices

  1. Open the Google Home app πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  3. Tap Home settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Works with Google.
  4. In the search box, type the name of the third-party device.
  5. Follow the instructions in the app to link account.

Reboot your third-party device

Check with your device manufacturer for specific instructions on how to reboot your third-party device.
