Organize your homes and devices in the Google Home app

Important:

• Only people in the home with Admin access have full control of all homes and devices. To learn more about access levels, refer to Manage people and permissions in the Google Home app.
• Permission changes made to your Google Home, such as adding or removing people from a home, may take up to 5 minutes to take effect.
• If you use the Nest app and haven’t migrated to a Google Account, you can still manage homes and people who share access to your home with the Nest app.

1. Open the Google Home app 👁 Google Home app
   .
2. Tap Add 👁 Add
   👁 and then
   Home.
3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Tip: Up to 5 homes can be added in your account.

2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
3. Tap Switch home 👁 Image
   , then choose the home you want to switch to.

Tip: If the dropdown icon doesn’t appear when you select a new home, it means that you only have one home registered in the Home app.

3. Tap Home settings 👁 Image

4. Tap the name of your home 👁 and then
   Home nickname.
5. Enter the new name for your home.
6. Tap Save.

You can delete a home from the Google Home app if you’re the last person in the home. If you aren’t the only person, you first need to remove all other people. Otherwise, you can only remove yourself from the home, while others continue to have access to the home and its devices.

When you delete a home, it is removed from your Google Account. You won’t be able to use the Google Home app to control devices you added unless you set those devices up again in a new home. This includes:

• Lights
• Displays
• Speakers
• Cameras
• Thermostats

Deleting your home will also lock the data associated with the home, such as video history from Nest cameras you might own. Your customized thermostat settings will also be deleted. However, data associated with your Google Account will not be deleted. Learn how to delete your activity.

To delete a home:

1. Open the Google Home app 👁 Google Home app

   • To switch to a different home:
     1. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
     2. Tap Switch home 👁 Image
        , then choose the home you want to switch to.

3. Tap Home settings 👁 Image

4. Scroll to the bottom, then tap Delete this home 👁 Image
   .
5. Tap Delete home.

   , then touch and hold your device's tile.
3. Tap Settings 👁 Settings
   👁 and then
   Device information 👁 and then
   Placement.
   • In case Device information isn't an option, tap Placement.
4. Select a suggested room name or scroll to the bottom.
5. Tap Add a custom room.

   • To switch to a different home:
     1. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
     2. Tap Switch 👁 Image
        , then choose the home you want to switch to.

   Devices, groups & rooms.
4. Tap the name of the room you want to change.
5. Tap Name.

6. Enter a name, then tap Save.

        , then choose the home you want to switch to.

4. Tap the name of the room you want to delete.
5. Tap Delete room.

Tip: When you delete a room, any devices in the room are also removed. You can add the devices to a different room.

• Make sure that you plug in and turn on your device before you connect it to the Google Home app.
• If a third-party device isn’t Matter-enabled, set it up in the manufacturer’s app before you start.

2. At the top right, tap Add 👁 Add Icon

   Device 👁 Image

   • Or, if a setup screen for your device appears, tap Set up or Next.
     • If it’s not the correct device, tap Not now or Set up a different device.

3. Scan the QR code of your device.

   • Or, tap Add a different way, then enter your device or its brand in the search bar.
     • If it’s a Google or Matter-enabled device, select your device.
     • Otherwise, select the device’s app, then tap Link app or Check for devices and select your device.
4. Wait for your app to connect to the device. Once it’s finished, you’ll see a confirmation screen that says, “Connected.”

   , then touch and hold the device you’d like to remove.
   Tip: For Nest Cameras and Doorbells, tap More 👁 Image
   once a device is selected.
3. Select Settings 👁 Settings
   👁 and then
   Remove device 👁 and then
   Remove.
   Tip: For Google Wifi devices, choose the factory reset option instead. Learn now to factory reset your Wifi device.

   Move device.
5. If asked, tap the room you want to move the device to 👁 and then
   Next.

3. Tap Settings 👁 Settings

4. Tap Device information 👁 and then
   Name.
   • If Device information isn't an option, tap Name.
5. Enter a new name for your device.
6. Tap Save.
