Format your messages

To change the appearance of your Gmail messages, use formatting options.

Format your message

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app 👁 Image

2. At the bottom right, tap Compose.
3. Add text to your message.
4. Double tap the text you want to format.
5. Tap Format.
6. Select a formatting option:
   • Bold 👁 Image
     
   • Italic 👁 Image
     
   • Underline 👁 Image
     
   • Text color 👁 Image
     
   • Background color 👁 Image
     
   • Unordered list 👁 Unordered list
     
   • Font 👁 Font download
     
   • Clear formatting 👁 Image
     

Tips:

• To open the format menu at any time when you compose an email:
  1. Touch and hold the screen.
  2. Tap Format.

• If you tap any of the format buttons with no text selected, the effect applies to the text you enter.
• To use “Clear formatting,” you must first select the text you want to apply it to.
  • This doesn’t clear the unordered list format.

Change font size

1. On your Android phone or tablet, update the font size from Settings.
2. Open the Gmail app 👁 Image
