Find the latest photo updates in your Photos app

You can get updates on new activities, like updates to a shared album, conversations, partner sharing, and edits made for you on the Updates page.

Find your updates

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app πŸ‘ Photos
    .
  2. At the top, tap Updates πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. Scroll to find updates in chronological order.

Tip: Unread updates are in bold.

Learn the types of updates

You’ll get an update when the following actions are taken in a shared album:

  • You receive a new shared album.
  • A new person joins a shared album.
  • Someone leaves a comment on a shared album.
  • Someone likes a shared album.
  • Someone adds new photos to a shared album.
  • Your own photos are automatically added to a shared album.

Tip: If you want to prevent content from showing up in Updates, you can mute an album.

You’ll get an update when the following actions are taken in a conversation:

  • You receive a new conversation.
  • Someone replies to you in a conversation.
  • Someone likes a conversation.
  • You receive new photos in a conversation.
  • Someone leaves a comment on a photo in a conversation.

You’ll get an update when the following actions are taken in partner sharing:

  • You receive a new partner sharing invitation.
  • Someone accepts your partner sharing invitation.
  • Your own photos are automatically shared with your partner.
  • You receive new photos from your partner.

You’ll get updates about your storage status:

  • Your storage is filling up.
  • You have low storage.
  • You’re almost out of storage.
  • You’re out of storage.

Find edits made for you in Updates

On iPhone and iPad devices, Google Photos now automatically picks some of your recent photos to enhance. To help make your pictures look their best, this feature provides 2 versions of a photo with edits like Straighten, HDR, Portrait Blur, and Filters. These refreshed photos show up in your Updates tab, ready for you to save or personalize.

This feature only suggests edits for:

  • Original photos that haven't been edited with Google Photos or any other third party app.
  • Photos that are recently backed up.

Review edits made for you in Updates

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app πŸ‘ Photos
    .
  2. At the top right, tap Updates πŸ‘ Image
    .
    • Tip: If there's a new photo update, the Updates πŸ‘ Image
      icon is badged on the Google Photos homepage.
  3. Next to the Magic wand πŸ‘ Image
    , you can find the edits that have been made to your photo.
    • Tip: To preview an image, you can tap the Magic wand πŸ‘ Image
      .
  4. To review all edited photos, tap an image preview or View edits.
    • To find other photos edited for you: Scroll vertically.
    • To preview the original image and the 2 edits: Scroll horizontally or tap the icons at the bottom of the photo.
  5. To save your photo:
    • To save the edited photo: Tap Save.
    • For more options: Touch and hold Save.
      • Save: Replaces the original photo with the edited photo.
      • Save as copy: Saves the edited photo as a new photo.

Tips:

  • If the image is a motion photo, the edits remove the motion.
  • To share an edited photo, first save it to your library.
  • To share feedback about an edit, at the top right, tap More πŸ‘ More
    πŸ‘ and then
    Send feedback.

Turn Edited for you on or off

From a photo

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app πŸ‘ Photos
    .
  2. At the top right, tap Updates πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. Tap an image preview or View edits.
  4. At the top right, tap More πŸ‘ More
    πŸ‘ and then
    Turn off Edited for you.
  5. When the confirmation notification appears, tap Turn off.

In the app settings

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app πŸ‘ Photos
    .
  2. At the top right, tap your account Profile picture or Initial πŸ‘ and then
    Google Photos Settings πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. Tap Preferences πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Edited for you.
  4. Turn Edited for you on or off.
