Manage caption settings
You can turn captions (subtitles) on or off for videos that have them. You can also change the default caption settings, like font style or language, on your computer or mobile device.

Turn captions on or off
- Go to the watch page of any video.
- Tap the video player once to show options, tap Closed captions ๐ Image
to turn on Captions. - To turn off Captions, tap Closed captions ๐ Image
again.

Change default size & style
- Open your iPhone or iPad Settings app.
- Go to Accessibility.
- Under the โHearingโ section, tap Subtitles & Captioning.
- Tap Style to change the size and style for the display and font.
- Tap Create New Style for more font styles, sizes, and colors.
Change default on or off setting
- Open your iPhone or iPad Settings app.
- Go to Accessibility.
- Under the โHearingโ section, tap Subtitles & Captioning.
- Tap Closed Captions + SDH to always serve captions when available.
Select a language
- At the top right of the video player, click More ๐ Image
. - Click Captions.
- Select a language.
If the language isn't listed when you click Subtitles/CC:
- Click Auto-translate.
- Select a language.
Turn show when muted on & off
Note: Show when muted is currently available on mobile and tablet.
- Go to the watch page of any video.
- Tap the video player once to show options, tap Settings ๐ Image
. - Tap Captions ๐ Image
for the captions menu. - Next to โShow when muted,โ tap ๐ Image
to turn on this feature.
