Use Smart Downloads with YouTube Premium
With Smart downloads, recommended videos are automatically added to your downloads to watch offline. Watch videos on-the-go and discover new content without the hassle of searching. Downloads will stop if you disconnect from the internet, or if your device’s storage is low.
How to download videos with YouTube Premium
Turn on Smart Downloads
From your signed-in YouTube Premium account,
- Open the YouTube App.
- Tap your profile picture 👁 Image
. - Tap Downloads 👁 Image
. - From the Menu 👁 Image
, select Settings 👁 Image
. - Toggle Smart Downloads to on 👁 Image
.
Note: Your device must be connected to the internet to begin downloading videos.
Turn off Smart Downloads
From your signed-in YouTube Premium account,
Find and watch Smart Downloads
From your signed-in YouTube Premium account,
- Open the YouTube App.
- Tap your profile picture 👁 Image
. - Tap Downloads 👁 Image
👁 and then
Smart Downloads.
You’ll see a list of recommended videos selected & downloaded for you based on your watch history.
Remove a video from your Smart Downloads
- Tap your profile picture 👁 Image
👁 and then
Downloads 👁 Image
. - Tap the Menu 👁 Image
next to the video you'd like to remove. - Select Delete from downloads.
New videos will be downloaded every 7 days and the previously downloaded videos will be replaced.
Change Smart Downloads quality/resolution
From your signed-in YouTube Premium account,
Adjust your storage settings
From your signed-in YouTube Premium account,
- Open the YouTube App and go to your Settings 👁 Image
. - Tap Background & downloads 👁 and then
Adjust Smart downloads. - Under Storage use, select Custom.
- Use the slider to select the amount of storage you’d like your device to use for Smart downloads.
