Customize your music & podcasts

You can explore new music and podcasts and customize your listening experience with the YouTube Music app. Learn how to navigate the YouTube Music app and discover new music based on your listening habits.

How to use and navigate the YouTube Music App to customize your listening experience

For more customized music and podcasts, log in to YouTube Music with your Google Account. You'll instantly get recommendations based on music and podcasts you've listened to or watched on YouTube.

Sample music videos

Samples is a new experience in the YouTube Music app that makes music discovery fun, effortless, and immersive. Browse the "Samples" tab to find an endless, personalized stream of music video segments ranging from new releases to old favorites.

With Samples, you can:

  • Discover new music
  • Save songs to your library or to playlists
  • Share with friends
  • Explore full videos
  • Find related videos that feature the song

To find Samples in the YouTube Music app, tap Samples πŸ‘ Image
in the bottom menu.

Library

In your Library you can find all your content organized into different categories:

  • Playlists
  • Podcasts
  • Songs
  • Albums
  • Artists

To find your Library in the YouTube Music app, tap Library πŸ‘ Image
at the bottom of your screen.

When you view a made for kids content or an artist detail page, the Menu πŸ‘ Image
 options will be different from other content. You can't save this content to a playlist, liked songs, or share it.

Downloads

You can find your downloaded playlists, songs, podcasts, or albums in the β€œLibrary” tab.

To view your downloads, tap the arrow πŸ‘ Image
next to Library πŸ‘ and then
Downloads. You can use the category filters to find downloaded playlists, songs, podcasts, or albums.

Playlists

You can create playlists in the YouTube Music app and on YouTube. Your playlists will show up in the Library tab πŸ‘ Image
of the YouTube Music app, along with any stations you've saved.

Songs

You can save songs to your library by tapping Menu πŸ‘ Image
πŸ‘ and then
Save to library.

If you like πŸ‘ Image
a video in the Samples tab πŸ‘ Image
, the full song will be automatically saved to your library in Liked Music.

If you save a song to your library, the song artist will appear in the Artists section of your library.

Albums

You can save an entire album to your library. All individual songs within the saved album will appear in the Songs section of your Library. The album artist will appear in the Artists section of your Library.

To save an album:

  1. Open the YouTube Music app πŸ‘ YouTube music app icon
    .
  2. Search for the album that you want to save.
  3. Tap Menu πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Save πŸ‘ Image
    .

Podcasts

Note: Users in select countries/regions may encounter different product experiences.

When you save a podcast to your library, the show’s playlist will appear under the Podcasts tab. All new episodes of shows you follow will also appear within the New Episodes playlist in your library.

To save a podcast show to your library, go to the details page of the podcast show and click Save to library πŸ‘ Image
.

YouTube will display the episode release date on some surfaces and the YouTube publish date on others. The release date is not verified by YouTube and is fully editable by the creator. If there isn’t a release date available, we’ll display episodes by the publish date.

Lyric Translations

You can view translated lyrics to any song on YouTube Music.

To use Lyric Translations:

  1. Select a song in a language different from your device's language.
  2. Navigate to the Lyrics tab.
  3. Tap Translate at the bottom of the screen.

To change the language that the lyrics are translated to, change your device's language in your device settings.

Like or dislike music

You can Like πŸ‘ Image
or Dislike πŸ‘ Image
songs to customize your station.

Music that you like will appear in Liked Music playlist, pinned at the top of your Library πŸ‘ Image
. Songs and albums you like will also appear in the Songs section of your Library, and will influence your recommendations. If you Like πŸ‘ Image
a video in the Samples tab πŸ‘ Image
, the full song will be automatically saved to your Library.

Unliking a song will not automatically remove it from your Library. To remove a song or album from your library:

  1. Tap Library πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Find the song or album you want to remove.
  3. Tap More πŸ‘ Image
    next to the song or album.
  4. Tap Remove from library.

To download your Liked songs:

  1. Tap Library πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. Tap Playlists.
  3. Tap Liked Music.
  4. Tap Download πŸ‘ Image
    to download all liked songs, or select song πŸ‘ and then
    More πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Download πŸ‘ Image
    to download individual songs.

If you are viewing a made for kids video or song, you will not be able to use the like or dislike buttons.

Sort and filter your content

Within your library, you can switch between your YouTube Music library, YouTube Music downloads, uploads to YouTube, or device files by tapping Library πŸ‘ Image
.

You can find playlists, songs, albums, artists, or podcasts from the content filters along the top of your library. When you filter by songs, you’ll also see a list of genres that can be used to tailor your experience based on your mood.

You can also sort music content in your YouTube Music app based on recent activity, recently saved content, or recently played.

Recommendations in YouTube Music

Your YouTube Music recommendations and search results may be based on content you’ve watched or liked or artists that you’ve subscribed to in the YouTube Music app and on YouTube.

Change your subscriptions, manage your watch history, or remove liked songs, videos, and podcasts to change your recommendations.

Manage your history

To manage your history:
  1. Select your profile picture.
  2. Select History πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. Select More πŸ‘ Image
    next to the song or podcast you want to remove.
  4. Select Remove from history πŸ‘ Image
    .

Pause your history

To pause your history in Android:

  1. Select your profile picture.
  2. Select Settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Privacy & data.
  3. Switch on Pause watch history or Pause search history.

To pause your history in iOS:

  1. Select your profile picture.
  2. Select Settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Privacy.
  3. Switch on Pause watch history or Pause search history.

Delete your history

To delete history in Android:

  1. Select your profile picture.
  2. Select Settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Privacy & data.
  3. Select Manage watch history or Manage search history and follow the instructions.

To delete history in iOS:

  1. Select your profile picture.
  2. Select Settings πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Privacy.
  3. Select Manage watch history or Manage search history and follow the instructions.
