Antimatter is a powerful energy source, though somewhat unstable. Megatron has the power to tap into a black hole and draw on the antimatter within to use as a weapon. ^[1]

Megatron used his power on only two occasions. The first time, he intended to use antimatter to destroy Auntie. His interference became unnecessary when Windcharger and Ravage burst into the room and destroyed Auntie in her moment of surprise. Charged up already, however, Megatron decided to redirect the antimatter to kill Optimus Prime, but was stopped by Windcharger. Raiders of the Last Ark The second time, Megatron wanted to use his power to destroy both Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus. In his state of mental instability and enthusiastic rage, he'd have destroyed himself, the Polyhex Decepticon stronghold and its inhabitants if Ratbat hadn't ordered for him to be teleported to Earth. Marvel Generation 2 comic

The Ark had an antimatter conversion chamber as part of its power system. Fortress Maximus and Spike Witwicky destroyed the chamber in an effort to prevent Megatron from stealing the ship. Their actions caused an explosion which destroyed the Ark and claimed both of their lives. Unfortunately, Megatron survived.All or Nothing!

Transformers '84

When AUNTIE was damaged to the point of being unable to distinguish between Autobot and Decepticon, she woke Megatron to deal with Grimlock lumbering back to the Ark, reactivating his antimatter abilities in the process. Secrets & Lies #3

After Grimlock managed to run through Megatron, the antimatter began leaking out, catalyzing into a deadly gamma-wave. The Coneheads bailed out when they saw this, forcing Grimlock to push his way into the Ark and deactivate AUNTIE, dissipating the antimatter build-up. Secrets & Lies #4

Doctor Alcazar created an antimatter formula, which came to the attention of Megatron, who wanted it as a source of energy. The doctor deleted the formula, but sent it to Chip Chase. Ultimately, Megatron decided that antimatter was simply too unstable to use. Roll for It

Metrowars/Legends

During their first battle, Metroplex fought Trypticon with a powerful antimatter projector beam that destroyed Trypticon and his commander, Galvatron. LG-43 Trypticon Project Chapter Years later, Metroplex was rebuilt into a larger form by the Autobots with the help of Nebulans. When the Decepticons attacked again, the Autobots were reluctant to activate the reborn Metroplex due to energy concerns, but the large robot pressed through and transformed into robot mode, taking Metrotitan by surprise. Metroplex attacked him with his antimatter projector. Metrowars And some time later, Metroplex used an antimatter projector beam to defeat his rival Trypticon, again. LG43 Trypticon

2005 IDW continuity

Ratchet told Perceptor that according to legend, Megatron could siphon antimatter from a black hole and release it through his eyes. Perceptor thought that the legend sounded silly, Chaos Theory Part 1 even though Megatron does have an actual black hole connection, which he used to fuel the space bridge nodes installed in his new body by Shockwave. After Shockwave forcibly activated the space bridge within him Into the Abyss to bring Galvatron and Nova Prime over from the Dead Universe, Finest Hour Megatron's body was left a mess of interdimensional portals internally and when he was attacked by Whirl aboard the Lost Light, the Autobot's arm was swallowed up. Towards Peace

Whirl would eventually find his arm in the unlikeliest of places—a cupboard in the "fortress" on the Necroworld where Megatron and "Team Rodimus" were under siege from the Decepticon Justice Division and Deathsaurus's forces. As the dying Ravage explained to the others, Megatron had spent the intervening year reaching out to try and recover Whirl's arm through the space bridge, allowing him to create and maintain a two-way connection to the black hole and siphon antimatter from it. Extradimensional entities tortured Ramjet until his corporeal form became an unstable, highly radioactive form of antimatter. When loose in the corporeal universe, Ramjet's body was surrounded with a glowing corona of destructive energy created by the constant interaction of his body with the atoms around him, which had the effect of overcharging his subdermal energy collectors. Notes

• Megatron's full Universe profile makes it clear that it's his fusion cannon that can use antimatter as a power source, but when the profile was cut down for his on-package bio, the resultant sentence fragments lost the explicit connection to his cannon. Simon Furman was apparently only aware of the truncated version, since he wrote the Marvel UK stories with Megatron using the antimatter as a weapon unto itself.
