How has this guy never been redecoed?

Insecticon is a creepy little bugger. Most other Predacons hate monitor duty, but Insecticon enjoys his job of surveillance a little too much. He'll gladly sit and watch everything for hours on end... friends, foes, rocks, trees, building up a comprehensive database of everyone and everything around him. Sometimes he'll build a network of cloaked recording devices just to make sure he hasn't missed anything. He's even built monitoring devices into his own body, and when he's in the field he'll record battlefield activity and then review the footage from the safety of his underground lair.

Insecticon isn't particularly strong, so he eschews front-line combat in favor of his own disturbing little game. Using his sonar-sensitive antennae, he'll track down Maximals encroaching on Predacon territory and shoot them with his energon crossbow, which overloads mechanical systems on impact. Once they've regained consciousness, Insecticon will force them to watch a real-time feed of their comrades being injured on the battlefield. Again, creepy.

"Dammit, Spittor, move your arm! You're blocking my coverage!"

Insecticon was one of the many Decepticons who joined Cicadacon in surrendering to the Autobots. Dawn of the Predacus

Later, Insecticon became one of the protoforms jettisoned by the Axalon on prehistoric Earth. He was activated and put in chronal phase by Razorbeast at Magmatron's request. The Gathering #1 The newly born Predacon quickly joined Magmatron. He was sent to hunt down the Maximals that Razorbeast had also awakened. The Gathering #2

While investigating a swampy area with Transquito, Powerpinch, Scourge, and Retrax, Insecticon discovered they were not alone. Several of his teammates were taken down by the Mutants, who declare that no Maximal or Predacon is welcome in their home. Insecticon and Scourge retreated, abandoning the swamp to its inhabitants. While running, they whimpered that the sector was all clear and there was nothing to report. The Gathering #3

Later, the Predacons discovered Razorbeast's base and attacked. Insecticon was part of the force that vastly ountnumbered the Maximals. Just in time, though, a new Maximal group broke into the fight, winning the day. The Gathering #4

A few weeks later, Insecticon participated in another attack on the Maximal base. The Ascending #1 Unfortunately, he soon found himself facing down Grimlock, and was promptly stomped and chewed on. He didn't do much better against Apache when he and the rest of the Pack showed up as Maximal reinforcements. The Ascending #2 After witnessing the arrival of Rartorata, Insecticon was among the Predacons to return to Cybertron and join the fight against Shokaract. The Ascending #3 Shortly after the battle begun, Insecticon, K-9, and Wolfang were destroyed by a single blast from Shokaract. The Ascending #4

Beast Wars: Uprising

You knocked my block off!

The Cybertronian who would become Insecticon was one of the many Maximal protoforms aboard the Axalon. To eliminate the Maximals and Predacons, Tarantulas and the Vok brought every crashed stasis pod they could find online and reprogrammed the protoforms within into loyal "Children of the Vok". Together, they attacked the crashed Darksyde in an attempt to take out the Maximal-Predacon alliance, and in the ensuing battle Cheetor used his super-speed to repeatedly punch Insecticon in the face. Eventually, when the Maximals and Predacons destroyed the Vok themselves, their remaining followers agreed to a truce and left to live peacefully in the wilderness. The End

Beast Wars

"It's got a Kuwagiger, ya young watchacallit... idiot!"
  • Insecticon (Basic, 1996/1998)
  • Takara name: Kuwagiger
  • Takara ID number: D-10
  • Accessories: 2-part crossbow
  • Known designers: Yuichiro Hira (TakaraTomy), Masakatsu Saito (concept artist)
Part of the second (and final) wave of Hasbro's first-year Beast Wars Basics, Insecticon transforms into a sparkly-blue and green organic stag beetle. His pincers can open and close somewhat, plus his elytra can be flipped open to reveal two halves of his weapon, which form jet thrusters for beast-mode flying. Neat! His transformation to robot mode is a spring-loaded one-step process, activated by pushing down on his beast-mode head. In robot mode, the two jet thruster pieces fit together to form a non-firing crossbow.
The Takara version of the toy, sold in the line's fifth wave as "Kuwagiger" in January 1998, has no functional differences from the Hasbro version aside from packaging.

  • ลŒzora no Taiketsu: Airazor vs Kuwagiger (Basic, 1997)
  • ID number: VS-10
  • Accessories: 2-part crossbow
For his Takara release, Kuwagiger was available both as an individually-boxed toy, and in an "Heaven Showdown" (ๅคง็ฉบใฎๅฏพๆฑบ ลŒzora no Taiketsu) two-pack with Airazor. Both toys were identical to their individual releases.

Insecticon was one of the 24 beast warriors to receive a battle card representation for the Beast Wars card game.

Notes

  • Insecticon was at one point slated to join the cast of the Beast Wars TV show. A remnant of this can be found in the script to "Power Surge" on Ben Yee's website, where it is noted most of Insecticon's intended lines (including the "If you are second in command, what is your command?" exchange with Scorponok) were transferred to Waspinator.
CHANGES FROM 1ST DRAFT TO FINAL - The Only Change is the removal of Insectacon [sic]. Some of his lines have gone to Waspinator. Changes are marked with an asterisk. - Power Surge script notes
  • Cyberworld Chop Shop appears to be a direct homage to Insecticon, sharing the same major body design elements.

Foreign names

  • Japanese: Kuwagiger (ใ‚ฏใƒฏใ‚ฌใ‚คใ‚ฌใƒผ Kuwagaigฤ)[1]
