Of all the possible classes of Functionism, set out and labeled according to the Grand Cybertronian Taxonomy, the Ornament class is possibly the rarest seen of all. So much so you might even think the Ornament class was just something made up one day as a cheat. But it isn't. They really exist, their seldom-seen alternate modes fulfilling whatever role Adaptus designed them for, probably brightening up a room or something.
The Functionist Council would never lie about things like that.
When the Functionists came to power, they were presented with a unique problem, in the form of Rung. Since Functionism dictated that every shape served a purpose, the fact that no one could figure out what exactly Rung's unique alt-mode was for proved a flaw in their entire philosophy. So they subjected him to every possible test they could conceive of, and came up with nothing. When that didn't work, they made him wear a fake wheel, to "reassure" the populace. After several thousand more tests they gave up, and decided to create the entirely fictional ornament class, dubbing Rung its only member. Little Victories
It eventually turned out that Rung's purpose was the fabrication of new photonic crystals, something unprecedented by the Grand Cybertronian Taxonomy. Modes of Production The function of his unique alt-mode was later revealed to be for manufacturing Matrices of Leadership. A Spark Among Embers
