As part of his game, Soundblaster sends Megatron and Optimus Primal to a planet to hunt down the key to his power.

On the astral plane, Vector Prime confronts his wayward brother, Logos Prime. The two are of the "Ancients", the first Transformers created by Primus before the god took the form of Cybertron. Vector Prime remembers Logos's power as surpassing his own, and Logos's soul as noble. As such, Soundblaster's new plot to pass his powers onto a "heretic" leaves the Guardian of Space and Time flummoxed. Soundblaster acknowledges Vector's concern, explaining that Logos is no more, and he is merely a "living corpse with a shattered soul, awaiting imminent destruction". He then swoops in to attack his former comrade.
In the physical plane, Optimus Primal's attempt to strike at Soundblaster proves ineffective as the Maximal is knocked back by infrasonic waves from his opponent. Megatron responds to Soundblaster's offer with a boast that power naturally flows to those who can use it to the fullest, such as himself. Nevertheless, he has internal doubts as to Soundblaster's claim. Speaking for his master, Hell Buzzsaw invites Megatron to test out his theory, and Soundblaster reveals the key to his power, the Zeonomicon. Soon after the artifact is revealed, the vast darkness the three Transformers are in lights up to reveal a planet underneath. The Zeonomicon is then sent to the planet, much to the annoyance of Megatron, who takes this as evidence of a hunting competition. Soundblaster clarifies, saying that the two will be marked with a sacred crest and that the entire process is recorded on the Golden Disk, but before he can finish his explanation, Optimus fires on the pillar containing the disk, destroys it, retrieves the disk, and attempts to escape. Soundblaster, unfazed by Optimus's actions, freezes the two Transformers and grants them their memories back before sending them to the surface of the planet. All the while, the temple they are in is self-destructing.
On the planet, Megatron suddenly finds himself on a rocky hill. Seeing the temple explode in the sky, he muses that the game has begun. Optimus Primal is elsewhere and speculates on the whereabouts of Soundblaster. After an initial suspicion that the planet is Earth, he comes across two fierce, gigantic beasts—an ursine creature and a wingless dragon. Realizing that the planet is not Earth, Optimus transforms into robot mode and attempts to join the battle, only to be knocked away by the unknowing dragon's tail. While the Maximal is lying on his back, a mechanical rhino approaches. Optimus mistakes him for Rhinox, and the rhino transforms into robot mode to introduce himself as Backstop of Animatron.
