Operated from a separate console, the repair spider is a column of machinery with many extensible arms tipped with surgical lasers, cutters and welders capable of repairing the delicate circuitry of a Transformer's body... or taking it apart in a much less delicate fashion.
Captured by Bludgeon on Hydrus Four, Grimlock and the Dinobots discovered that he had set up base in the medical centre there and was using the many-armed "spider" to repair Megatron's body before reviving him with Nucleon. After escaping their bonds, Grimlock joined up with Optimus Prime to destroy Megatron once and for all, while Swoop took over the controls of the repair spider and used it to dismember Bludgeon.
