Erm... what does this article accomplish that isn't already covered by life cycle and to sell toys? -- Repowers 16:09, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

I'd have to give it an in-depth reading to answer that, which I really shouldn't while at work. Someone might want to compare the two... --M Sipher 19:10, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh don't be so negative.

Also, what's the Z word joke aboutUser:GWolfv2

I believe it's a reference to Shaun of the Dead. --Professor Icepick 19:33, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Lists of Deaths

I remember when I first discovered that Transformers had this huge online fandom there was a page that give a list of ALL the G1 Comic deaths. As I never completed the original run I was somewhat shocked to have seen Scorponok was killed. He was for such a long time the main Big Bad (arguably he was in that role longer than Megatron ever was), I could not believe it that TPTB killed him off.

Would there be scope for extending this article (or creating another) for a list of deaths by continuity? I appreciate that this wiki takes a strong stance against exhaustive lists, but how else could all the death information be collated? I imagine all of them are in the various character entries. However to use my example of 1st discovering online TF, I would not have found out that Scorponok died unless I specifically read his article. Even a link to such an page would probably do I suppose. Drmick 19:39, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

My personal guide to the G1 comics lists every single Transformer death. I'd be happy to expand the article with such a list if others thought it acceptable.--Werthead 20:14, 13 June 2009 (EDT)

Some inaccuracies

The first verified Transformer deaths, aside from the nameless generics on Cybertron in the opening panels of issue 1, were the Man of Iron and Navigator in the Man of Iron UK story, and then Tornado and Quake in The Enemy Within that immediately followed it, both a long time before The Smelting Pool. The first verified human death was the driver of a car run off the road by the crazed Autobot Brawn, also in Enemy Within. His car slammed into another parked car complete with an explosion of Michael Bay proportions and a scream of "NOOOOOOOOO!!!" which ended suddenly. Also, Starscream blew apart human jet fighters in the same story.--Werthead 20:14, 13 June 2009 (EDT)

Total rework

I hate this page.

It's a dumb page, a brainless list of every time a character died, with no overarching themes. It's boring to read, and serves no real purpose. It's not illuminating in any way.

It could be made into something useful, however. There are two paths to take: what in-universe elements cause a Transformer to die, and what out-of-universe factors affect who can die, how and when. I can't promise a complete re-write ASAP, but I'll be chipping away at it sooner or later. -- Repowers 17:16, 15 July 2009 (EDT)

Man, this whole thing is so complicated that I seriously question whether it should be broken down by continuity. Covering all these topics within EVERY continuity would be insanely complex. Perhaps, like to sell toys and scale, it's best served by topic instead.

In-fiction causes

  • Weaponsfire (Dinobot, TFTM, G2, Tigerhawk, Inferno/QS)
  • Chopped in half (Megatron (Grimlock dream sequence), Movie Sideways)
  • Brain destroyed (Shockwave)

  • Devoured (Kranix?, Mutants)
  • Melted (smelting pool, Unicron stomach)
  • Incinerated (A. Megs, E. Inferno, Demolishor)
  • Disassembled (Bludgeon)
  • Falls (Gears, ?)
  • Crushed (Inferno G2, Arm. Thrust, Shockblast, Six Shot)

  • Increase sense of threat (disposables UK - City of Fear)
  • Thin out cast (Wreckers / Underbase / TFTM)
  • Clear space for new toys (BW S1 / Underbase)

Not quite dead

  • Stasis lock / deactivated (Ark crew / early Marvel Autobots / BW / Animated)
  • Decapitation (Cloudburst, City of Steel, Animated-Headmaster)
  • Dismembered (Cold War!)
  • De-Sparking (BM / Starscream / BM Megs)

-- Repowers 16:11, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

What about characters who cannot die? Starscream from G1 and Animated, Rampage from Beast Wars, Unicron ... --Jimsorenson 16:16, 16 July 2009 (EDT)
Good point! Added. -- Repowers 16:26, 16 July 2009 (EDT)

Anyway, you get the idea. This is how I think this article should go. Any protests? I'll keep picking away at it over the coming days or weeks or whatever, and drop it onto the main article when it's all up to snuff. -- Repowers 17:14, 20 July 2009 (EDT)

Marvel comics

I really think that in the Marvel comics Transformers don't really die, but they may simply be beyond repair. If they are melted or disintegrated there is obviously no hope of repair, but if there is any body at all, repair is theoretically possible, even if it is beyond the skill of the medic. I think this is especially true under Budiansky but also Furman, but I'm not so sure about UK. - Starfield 20:35, 5 August 2009 (EDT)

Drowning

Even though you hardly ever see drowning anywhere else, it was the easiest (and possibly only way for an experienced player or someone using invincibility) way to die in the 2004 TF game. In there, you sink like a rock whose molecules have just collapsed in upon themslves. Oh yeah, and don't forget DEATH BY CHOCOLATE. --LokitheGrammarNazi 14:53, 18 September 2010 (EDT)

Greying

Should we mention that sometimes Transformers are not considered dead unless they turn grey like Blurr. It is a common occurence. Optimus Prime, Starscream, Master Yoilketron(SP?), and a few others turn grey when they die. DinoFreakUSA 16:58, 20 September 2010 (EDT) DinoFreakUSA

Sam in the movies

Sam Witwicky was brought back alive by the Primes, a creation of Primus

did he in fact die or was in a Coma like state, I know they tried CPR on him but I do not remember the Military Medics calling him dead 156.33.195.254 09:23, 30 May 2012 (EDT)

Revamp?

This page was last significantly overhauled sometime around 2009, a time when the Transformers franchise was significantly smaller and our editorial standards were a lot looser. As a quick glance at this page shows, itโ€™s pretty much just a listicle trying to record down every single death without any context, which, as the franchise continues to grow and grow, seems increasingly unhelpful. Thereโ€™s probably some way that this page could be, at the very least, streamlined into something a bit more to-the-point, but Iโ€™m not entirely sure what such a streamlining would look like. Grum (talk) 18:26, 2 September 2022 (EDT)

I think revamping this into "what can cause a Transformer to die", along with what happens at death, would be appropriate. Saix (talk) 18:44, 2 September 2022 (EDT)

Quake

Should he be placed in the "characters that like to go offline a lot" section? He's not an A lister but considering that's his only claim to fame, he probably should be plunked there.Poliwag06 (talk) 05:59, 28 December 2024 (EST)
