Honeymoon - Cruise

  • May. 22nd, 2008 at 5:29 PM
My FH and I would like to go on a cruise for our honeymoon. We have a honeymoon budget of $5000. Today I did some research and I found some really cool things! I made a whole spreadsheet comparing different cruises on different cruiselines. (If anyone wants it, I'll be happy to share.)

We found two cruises that are pretty inexpensive. One is a New England cruise leaving from the Port of New York. (We live about 2 hours from NYC.) It leaves on 7/27 and returns on 8/1. There is another cruise that leaves from Bayonne, NJ (which is less than 10 miles from the Port of New York) that leaves for the Bahamas on 8/1. I really want to do both and together, they cost $3,444.56 which is well within our price range! Plus no flights!

So my question is for those of you who have been on a lot of cruises before, do you think that's totally insane?

(We went on one that was 3 days and we didn't want to leave. I went on a week long one years ago and was raring to go for more at the end of it, but after a wedding and everything else, I figured I would ask the "experts"!)

Thanks!

I need assistance, please

My FH is driving me nuts. Don't get me wrong, I'm crazy, mad in love with him. He's my other half. But he's driving me nuts.

Some of you might remember our timeshare situation.... here's the backgroundCollapse )

So anyway, I sent him resort codes to check out for Las Vegas. He said the resorts look great but he warned me that he'd gamble a lot. I didn't like that idea especially since we both have an allowance (the rest goes towards savings or bills) and he didn't want to use his allowance. So I said forget that idea. That sounds like a good way to start a lot of arguments.

Then I sent resort codes for Key West, FL..... "even though they're 5 star the rooms don't look anything specular". Okay, fine.

Awhile back he nixed the idea of going to Orlando. We haven't used our timeshare resort yet and we've only been in Orlando once together for a few days before going to the Bahamas. His argument was "hurricane season" and we'd go to Orlando every other year because of our timeshare. For the past few months, he's been off and on about the idea of selling the timeshare to put the money towards our house. So if he's not sure if he's going to keep I don't think it should be nixed from the list. By the time we'd go, we'd be at the end of hurricane season so I'm not too concerned about that. I know a lot of people who've been to Orlando that time of year and had no issues so he seems OK by that rationality. He even said the resort codes I sent him for Orlando (in order to be able to exchange locations, we gave up our weeks at our resort so we can't use it). He even stated that the resorts look awesome...... but "Disney is a kiddie place".

First off, I would only do Disney for 2 or 3 days, not the entire week. Secondly, he hasn't been to Disney World since he was 8 years old...... 22 years ago. I reminded him of that. "But I remember it being kiddie stuff". Oh man, I went off "Because you were a kid! It was the early 80s! A lot has changed! Tons of people go to Disney for their Honeymoon or without kids".

My feelings are that if he had from early 2007 to try and book a Honeymoon and chose to wait until the last minute then he shouldn't be as picky. I can't make the CA or HI resorts available. All I want is to be able to add some FL resorts in addition to the CA & HI ones so we have a better chance of getting SOMETHING.

For those of you who've been to Disney as an adult, without kids, did you have fun? Was it strictly a kids-only vacation spot? Would you go again?

Place for honeymoon

  • Feb. 25th, 2008 at 4:29 PM
There were may places to stay as well as vacation for honeymoon. Good example for it is in Costa brava Spain as well as in France. Costa Brava boasts with amazing golden beaches, rocky gorges, unspoiled nooks, sheltered coves, and some of the most attractive scenery in the Mediterranean. Certainly the perfect holiday escape.

Bermuda

I thought this might be an appropriate place to post this, hope someone might find it useful!!

SO the hubby and I are planning our second wedding anniversey this upcoming June (gosh, in 4 months!!) We really wanted to do low-key this year because last year, we went to Hawaii... which was a big and beautiful trip for us.

But, everywhere that I have been researching is pretty expensive. But, I think that we found something nice and hopefully a great place to go, so I thought I would share!! The resort is called 9 Beaches and it is located in Bermuda.

I'm not sure if they do advertising, becasue I have never seen any from them. I know about the resort because of a friend who went there. It is a pretty small resort, which I like. The place is amaaazing, so take a look!!

We are planning on going mid-week becasue they have major discounts!!!! Plus, Bermuda is only located 2 hours from the Carolinas, so airfare is not going to be bad at all.

Here are some pictures:

California?

  • Jan. 25th, 2008 at 10:24 PM
Frank (FH) and I still have not got word that a Hawaiian timeshare resort is available Oct 26 - November 2. We're still going to wait a couple of weeks but as I told him, we need to start thinking about an alternate destination. Our mistake with Hawaii was originally we were planning on having him plan everything and keep all Honeymoon plans a secret until the wedding (we've been engaged since Oct 2006 and we agreed to that pretty early on). This past Christmas he admitted he didn't want to plan without me. If we would have known that a secret Honeymoon wasn't a good idea for us we would have had them start looking for an available resort in Hawaii a year and a half (or more) in advanced.

Anyway, I know he's going to be upset if we don't get Hawaii but he agreed that by February we should start giving our timeshare exchange club an alternate location. He absolutely does not want to go near the Caribbean since October falls under hurricane season. Las Vegas we thought would be good for a future vacation but neither one of us are crazy over that idea for the Honeymoon. I REALLY want to go to New Orleans but again, future vacation (he's not jumping for that idea so that wouldn't be right to do that as a Honeymoon).

Originally I wanted to go to FL but that would fall under the "hurricane season" situation. Plus our timeshare is in FL and he'd rather not go somewhere that we'll go to often and with our kids one day. Okay, I understand, it's just that I don't want to be cold and I don't want to be bored. Disney & Universal has always been my idea of fun.

Then I remembered that I had been looking at different California locations before we decided to try Hawaii and then it dawned on me "Hey not only would we not run into the hurricane season issue, it'll be warm, and neither one of us have been to Disney Land!" We figure we can try to find a resort in a CA location that won't be too far from Sea World, Universal Studios, or Disney Land (preferably within an hour and we'd prefer to be closest to Disney since the hopper passes include more days in Disney). Any suggestions of cities we should look into for resorts? Neither one of us have ever left the east coast so we're pretty CA clueless. Any other hot spots to check out would be awesome.
