Fantastic Comedy

Go To

A work whose premise includes at least one Fantasy or Science Fiction element, often an Amusing Alien. These were especially popular in television Sitcoms of The '60s, as writers and networks cast about for novel alternatives to the more conventional Dom Coms of the preceding years.

See also: Comic Fantasy, Magic Realism, Mundane Fantastic, Urban Fantasy, Life Embellished, and Monster Roommate. Not to be confused with a comedy that just happens to be very good. Compare Supernatural Soap Opera for a more serious action- and drama-filled version which focuses more on the supernatural world instead of trivial everyday things.

  • Happy Friends: Robot Kid superheroes defend their home planet from various monsters of the week, with plenty of comedic tropes (including several jokes that use Breaking the Fourth Wall and Lampshade Hanging) thrown in for good measure.
  • Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: The later seasons retain the comedy aspect of the older seasons while having stories with largely science-fiction elements (compared to earlier seasons which were slapstick), from exploring the insect world while as small as an insect to ocean exploration to time travel.
  • Rocket Boy & Toro: It's about a robot delivery boy who serves all of outer space. The primary bad guy is a supercomputer and his robotic assistant, and alternate universes and time travel are among the subjects found in certain episodes. There's plenty of comedy, whether it's puns, silly situations like someone deciding to wear a pizza on his head, or other things entirely.
