Hi everybody.
When I was a kid living in England I used to make Vegetarian cakes a lot when there was no food in the house. I have a sweet tooth so chocolate cake often appeals. Now I am older and living in the USA and Vegan. My son is one today so I googled a recipe for vegan sponge cake and now I will go and attempt to find suitable ingredients. Not sure how this will turn out but I thought I would just ask if anybody had a recipe that they liked or perhaps any tips on individual ingredients.
I will post pictures if it turns out o.k.
thanks
An old favorite lunchtime snack for my family is the Monkey Wrap!
-Wheat Tortillas
-Natural Peanutbutter
-Fruit-juice sweetened jelly
-an assortment of fruits, like bananas, apples, strawberries, sliced thin
Spread the peanut butter and a little jelly over a tortilla (careful not to get too close to the edge!)
add the sliced fruits, roll up into a wrap, and voila!
A more nutritious version of a pb&j.
Especially useful if your child is like mine and won't sit still long enough to eat big portions of food. This kind of mixes a bunch of good things together to be eaten all at once.
My two- year old son and I have discovered the most tasty way to make cauliflower!
-Wash and Chop up cauliflower
-In a bowl, toss the cauliflower, olive oil, sea salt, and pepper
-Heat in baking dish in oven (350 degrees) for about 20 mins
When it's done, you can shred some sharp cheese on top if you're dairlily inclined.
It's so simple, but SO tasty! My son will eat a pile of this stuff.
I'll post my better kid recepies when I have more time.
Glad to see people posting recipe ideas!
My 9 year old and I have come up with some pretty amazing and fun to make vegetarian recipes, if anyone is interested in sharing and trading?
A few that come to mind:
*vegetarian chicken pot pie (easy easy)
*vegetarian chicken, rice, broccoli and cheese bake (easy)
*black bean cheese quesadilla melt (very super duper easy)
*a dish called "monkey hips and rice" which is black beans, rice, cheese, salsa, sour cream.
Anyway, just throwing it out there.
hello i'm new here, i just wanted to introduce myself first. My name is Naomi, i'm 26 years old, I was vegetarian for 5 years, and now vegan for 1.5. I'm actually 11 weeks pregnant :) my husband and I are super excited to be raising a virtual vegan child, i do relize that there are going to be certin dairy products we won't be able to avoid, especially if we have to use formula, we're not planning on it, but i have came across a lot of things saying some mothers can't breast feed the amount that their child demands but anyways, as much as we're excited about it we have a lot of concerns.
this is where you come in! Since it was just halloween, we're trying to think of something we can do for our child on halloween, i remember i loved getting dressed up and getting candy, and we want our child to feel like they fit in? does that make sence i mean other holidays we can think of plenty of vegan friendly ways to celebrate, but we're pretty clueless on this one, so i was wondering what other veg parents do?
that's pretty much all i have for now, i know as i get further along, and then once the baby is here i'll think of more things, and realize i have no idea how to handle them.
but thanks for listening!
My daughter made a video. She's been vegetarian going on 9 months now. She started it (she's my little activist) and now her parents are following. We are buying the soy supplements and whatnot and young in our quest. This video makes me cry everytime I watch it b/c she just makes me so proud. She did this in her room, alone, with our webcam and posted it to youtube. She is 9 and on her way to great things already. She is so politically/environmentally minded...it swells me to see this little kid trying to make this big difference. Anyway, I thought it was appropriate for my first post. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we did.
