I came across some typos, and while verifying my edits, I wonder, if it is defined for the wiki, if we use AE or BE ? Not that it does matter for the content understanding (e.g. behavior / behaviour), but to suppress false alarms, and to focus on the real typos.

some of my colleagues criticize, I have no valid native language at all :-) So I often have to rely on the typing correction help in Firefox or Thunderbird - while the latter one offers AE or BE for spell checking. I'm not sure, what to choose for me now. Ua4000 (talk) 17:49, 8 June 2026 (UTC)

We don't want people to waste their time on AE/BE spelling quarrels, the guidelines is "keep what's already in the page". If there is no content or clear indication, pick whatever suits you best :)

This has been discussed before—Special:Permalink/735176#American vs. British English Usage, which resulted in a bullet point in Help:Style#Spelling. "Typo fixes" that change this kind of spelling are not appreciated. -- nl6720 (talk) 06:21, 9 June 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for the old link - funny the discussion started with the same "behavior" example, as I stumbled on too :-)

To solve the discussion here: I posted here, because on ArchWiki:Contributing I found no solution to my question.

Search words I used on the page were "spelling" and "language" which did led me to an answer BE<>AE.

Proposal for Chapter 5:

"Correct inaccurate or outdated content, spelling, grammar, language ..."
