Discussing making this article redirect to List of applications/Utilities#Terminal
I think that most of the times, most of the users only want to configure 3 things in their terminal: font, font size, color theme.
On one hand, we can just fulfill these 3 easy needs with examples and people will save another minute.
On the other hand, the documentation (manpages) is put together very well plus it covers all the other options the developer has put work in and perhaps wants users to explore them too.
I like manpages, but some newbies may be afraid of them. It is both a circumstance and a learning opportunity that is anyway unavoidable for any linux user. Pigeon (talk) 18:50, 11 October 2025 (UTC)
- I do agree with you, I would also like to add that since the manpages are maintained by upstream they'll usually be up-to-date. I would rather that people use the manpages rather than the Archwiki due to the fact that the Archwiki page is more likely to be outdated than the manpages and, since if a "newbie" were using the Archwiki they were probably told that it was a trusted source and may not even look at the manpages even if the Archwiki page was outdated.
- However the fact there is a Alacritty page may set a president that a page like this is okay. Paradiseofmagic (talk) 15:21, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- After some time, I think that this article is completely okay and just needs a note at the top to direct readers to the official documentation. Qtile i3 Alacritty are examples of articles where they tell you how to configure it, but also link to the documentation. Paradiseofmagic (talk) 11:57, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- I like this approach.
- In the current state, this page doesn't really provide much use: e.g. mentioning things such as "The syntax is "key = value"." and "# Comments start with a `#`" doesn't bring a lot of value when we don't really provide examples where this "syntax" is used (apart from (the only) 2.2 Font section that is currently listed). I don't currently have time to write up something high-quality, also given that i no longer use ghostty + I tend to tweak as little stuff as possible so i am not sure i know many useful options beyond the very basics. If someone decides to go ahead and make this section complete, don't forget to mention that there are 2 sources of official documentation: man pages and ghostty.org/docs which are both excellent and fulfill different needs (e.g. there are folks that are yet to overcome the fear of manpages + cli(tui) interface). Also, if someone has experience with fighting font-related issues, would be very useful to mention the "workarounds".
- For example, there is an issue with JetBrains Mono font variations (see https://github.com/ghostty-org/ghostty/discussions/3935) that i couldn't get around and also no longer remember what things i tried during troubleshooting.
- In general, if someone knows of any present issues that are known and affect many people, it may be worth mentioning on this Wiki :) Pigeon (talk) 18:46, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
