I needed Shift+NumHome (shift+numkey7) to work like Shift+Home does and select the text... but with NumLock off it would just type out '7' The solution was to either turn on numlock temporarily then Shift+Num7 or make it work like in Windows where Shift key doesn't act like a temporary numlock toggler: setxkbmap -option "numpad:microsoft"
