FileMaker Pro is a cross-platform relational database application that allows users to visually modify a database. When paired with CData Connect AI, FileMaker Pro gets access to live Active Directory data. This article demonstrates how to connect to Active Directory using Connect AI and query Active Directory data in FileMaker Pro.
CData Connect AI provides a pure SQL Server interface for Active Directory, allowing you to query data from Active Directory without replicating the data to a natively supported database. Using optimized data processing out of the box, CData Connect AI pushes all supported SQL operations (filters, JOINs, etc.) directly to Active Directory, leveraging server-side processing to return the requested Active Directory data quickly.
Connectivity to Active Directory from FileMaker Pro is made possible through CData Connect AI. To work with Active Directory data from FileMaker Pro, we start by creating and configuring a Active Directory connection.
To establish a connection, set the following properties:
BaseDN: This will limit the scope of LDAP searches to the height of the distinguished name provided.
Note: Specifying a narrow BaseDN may greatly increase performance; for example, cn=users,dc=domain will only return results contained within cn=users and its children.
When connecting to Connect AI through the REST API, the OData API, or the Virtual SQL Server, a Personal Access Token (PAT) is used to authenticate the connection to Connect AI. It is best practice to create a separate PAT for each service to maintain granularity of access.
With the connection configured and a PAT generated, you are ready to connect to Active Directory data from Filemaker Pro.
To establish a connection from FileMaker Pro to the CData Connect AI Virtual SQL Server API, follow these steps.
