The CData ODBC driver for Amazon S3 enables access to live data from Amazon S3 under the ODBC standard, allowing you work with Amazon S3 data in a wide variety of BI, reporting, and ETL tools and directly, using familiar SQL queries. This article shows how to connect to Amazon S3 data as a generic ODBC Data Provider and create charts, reports, and dashboards based on Amazon S3 data in DBxtra.
To authorize Amazon S3 requests, provide the credentials for an administrator account or for an IAM user with custom permissions. Set AccessKey to the access key Id. Set SecretKey to the secret access key.
Note: You can connect as the AWS account administrator, but it is recommended to use IAM user credentials to access AWS services.
For information on obtaining the credentials and other authentication methods, refer to the Getting Started section of the Help documentation.
When you configure the DSN, you may also want to set the Max Rows connection property. This will limit the number of rows returned, which is especially helpful for improving performance when designing reports and visualizations.
You are now ready to create a dashboard with Amazon S3 data.
With a new Dashboard created, you are ready to begin analysis of Amazon S3 data. Thanks to the ODBC Driver for Amazon S3, you can refresh the Dashboard and immediately see any changes made at the source. In the same way, you can create and view Reports with live, up-to-date Amazon S3 data.
