Tableau is a visual analytics platform transforming the way businesses use data to solve problems. When paired with CData Connect AI, you get instant, cloud-to-cloud access to Azure DevOps data for visualizations, dashboards, and more. This article shows how to connect to Azure DevOps and build visualizations from Azure DevOps data in Tableau.
CData Connect AI provides a pure SQL Server, cloud-to-cloud interface for Azure DevOps, allowing you to easily build visualizations from live Azure DevOps data in Tableau without installing connectors. As you build visualizations, Tableau generates SQL queries to gather data. Using optimized data processing out of the box, CData Connect AI pushes all supported SQL operations (filters, JOINs, etc) directly to Azure DevOps, leveraging server-side processing to quickly return Azure DevOps data.
Connectivity to Azure DevOps from Tableau is made possible through CData Connect AI. To work with Azure DevOps data from Tableau, we start by creating and configuring a Azure DevOps connection.
To generate one, log in to your Azure DevOps Organization account and navigate to Profile -> Personal Access Tokens -> New Token. The generated token will be displayed.
If you wish to authenticate to Azure DevOps using OAuth refer to the online Help documentation for an authentication guide.
π Configuring a connection (Salesforce is shown)When connecting to Connect AI through the REST API, the OData API, or the Virtual SQL Server, a Personal Access Token (PAT) is used to authenticate the connection to Connect AI. It is best practice to create a separate PAT for each service to maintain granularity of access.
With the connection configured and a PAT generated, you are ready to connect to Azure DevOps data from Tableau.
To establish a connection from Tableau Desktop to the CData Connect AI Virtual SQL Server, follow these steps.
At this point, you have a direct, cloud-to-cloud connection to live Azure DevOps data from your Tableau workbook. You can create new visualizations, build dashboards, and more. For more information on gaining live access to data from more than 100 SaaS, Big Data, and NoSQL sources from applications like Tableau, refer to our Connect AI page.
