Microsoft Entity Framework serves as an object-relational mapping framework for working with data represented as objects. Although Visual Studio offers the ADO.NET Entity Data Model wizard to automatically generate the Entity Model, this model-first approach may present challenges when your data source undergoes changes or when you require greater control over entity operations. In this article, we will delve into the code-first approach for accessing Basecamp data through the CData ADO.NET Provider, providing you with more flexibility and control.
Modify the App.config file in the project to add a reference to the Basecamp Entity Framework 6 assembly and the connection string.
Basecamp uses basic or OAuth 2.0 authentication. To use basic authentication you will need the user and password that you use for logging in to Basecamp. To authenticate to Basecamp via OAuth 2.0, obtain the OAuthClientId, OAuthClientSecret, and CallbackURL connection properties by registering an app with Basecamp.
See the Getting Started section in the help documentation for a connection guide.
Additionally, specify the AccountId connection property. This can be copied from the URL after you log in.
<configuration> ... <connectionStrings> <add name="BasecampContext" connectionString="Offline=False;[email protected];Password=test123;" providerName="System.Data.CData.Basecamp" /> </connectionStrings> <entityFramework> <providers> ... <provider invariantName="System.Data.CData.Basecamp" type="System.Data.CData.Basecamp.BasecampProviderServices, System.Data.CData.Basecamp.Entities.EF6" /> </providers> <entityFramework> </configuration> </code>
