Tableau is a visual analytics platform transforming the way businesses use data to solve problems. When paired with the CData Tableau Connector for Basecamp, you can easily get access to live Basecamp data within Tableau Prep. This article shows how to connect to Basecamp in Tableau Prep and build a simple chart.
The CData Tableau Connectors enable high-speed access to live Basecamp data in Tableau. Once you install the connector, you simply authenticate with Basecamp and you can immediately start building responsive, dynamic visualizations and dashboards. By surfacing Basecamp data using native Tableau data types and handling complex filters, aggregations, & other operations automatically, CData Tableau Connectors grant seamless access to Basecamp data.
NOTE: The CData Tableau Connectors support Tableau Prep Builder 2020.4.1 or higher. If you are using an older version of Tableau Prep Builder, you will need to use the CData JDBC Driver.
When you install the CData Tableau Connector for Basecamp, the installer should copy the TACO and JAR files to the appropriate directories. If your data source does not appear in the connection steps below, you will need to copy two files:
Open Tableau Prep Builder and click "Connect to Data" and search for "Basecamp by CData." Configure the connection and click "Sign In."
Basecamp uses basic or OAuth 2.0 authentication. To use basic authentication you will need the user and password that you use for logging in to Basecamp. To authenticate to Basecamp via OAuth 2.0, obtain the OAuthClientId, OAuthClientSecret, and CallbackURL connection properties by registering an app with Basecamp.
See the Getting Started section in the help documentation for a connection guide.
Additionally, specify the AccountId connection property. This can be copied from the URL after you log in.
