Denodo Platform is a data virtualization product providing a single point of contact for enterprise database data. When paired with the CData JDBC Driver for Google BigQuery, Denodo users can work with live BigQuery data alongside other enterprise data sources. This article explains how to create a virtual data source for BigQuery in the Denodo Virtual DataPort Administrator.
With built-in optimized data processing, the CData JDBC Driver offers unmatched performance for interacting with live BigQuery data. When you issue complex SQL queries to BigQuery, the driver pushes supported SQL operations, like filters and aggregations, directly to BigQuery and utilizes the embedded SQL engine to process unsupported operations client-side (often SQL functions and JOIN operations). Its built-in dynamic metadata querying allows you to work with and analyze BigQuery data using native data types.
CData simplifies access and integration of live Google BigQuery data. Our customers leverage CData connectivity to:
Most CData customers are using Google BigQuery as their data warehouse and so use CData solutions to migrate business data from separate sources into BigQuery for comprehensive analytics. Other customers use our connectivity to analyze and report on their Google BigQuery data, with many customers using both solutions.

To connect to live BigQuery data from Denodo, you need to copy the JDBC Driver JAR file to the external library directory for Denodo and create a new JDBC Data Source from the Virtual DataPort Administrator tool.
Database URI: Set this to a JDBC URL using the necessary connection properties. For example,
jdbc:googlebigquery:DataSetId=MyDataSetId;ProjectId=MyProjectId;InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;
π Configuring the JDBC connection (NetSuite is shown).Information on creating the Database URI follows:
For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the BigQuery JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.
java -jar cdata.jdbc.googlebigquery.jar
Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.
Google uses the OAuth authentication standard. To access Google APIs on behalf of individual users, you can use the embedded credentials or you can register your own OAuth app.
OAuth also enables you to use a service account to connect on behalf of users in a Google Apps domain. To authenticate with a service account, register an application to obtain the OAuth JWT values.
In addition to the OAuth values, specify the DatasetId and ProjectId. See the "Getting Started" chapter of the help documentation for a guide to using OAuth.
π Using the built-in connection string designer to generate a JDBC URL (Salesforce is shown.)After creating the data source, you can create a base view of BigQuery data for use in the Denodo Platform.
SELECT * FROM cdata_googlebigquery_orders CONTEXT ('i18n'='us_est', 'cache_wait_for_load'='true')
π Configuring the query to view the data.With the base view created, you can now work with live BigQuery data like you would any other data source in Denodo Platform, for example, querying BigQuery in the Denodo Data Catalog.
