This guide explains everything you need to get started with the Microsoft Dataverse PowerShell Cmdlets. You'll learn how to install the cmdlets, configure your first connection, run queries, and explore next steps for working with Microsoft Dataverse data in PowerShell.
CData provides the easiest way to access and integrate live data from Microsoft Dataverse (formerly the Common Data Service). Customers use CData connectivity to:
CData customers use our Dataverse connectivity solutions for a variety of reasons, whether they're looking to replicate their data into a data warehouse (alongside other data sources)or analyze live Dataverse data from their preferred data tools inside the Microsoft ecosystem (Power BI, Excel, etc.) or with external tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.).
CData PowerShell Cmdlets run anywhere PowerShell runs.
CData Cmdlets are delivered through the PowerShell Gallery, ensuring a simple and consistent installation process across platforms.
Install-Module CDSCmdlets -Repository PSGallery -Force

The cmdlets support both trial and fully licensed activation.
Trial activation is automatic - no key is required. Once installed, you can begin using the cmdlets immediately.
If you have purchased a full license, you will receive a product key from the CData Orders Team.
Run the following command:
Set-ModuleLicense ""
You should see a confirmation message indicating successful activation.
Can I use my license on multiple machines?

Connect-Microsoft Dataverse cmdlet
After obtaining the needed connection properties, accessing Microsoft Dataverse data in PowerShell and preparing for replication consists of four basic steps.
You can connect without setting any connection properties for your user credentials. Below are the minimum connection properties required to connect.
When you connect the Common Data Service OAuth endpoint opens in your default browser. Log in and grant permissions. The OAuth process completes automatically.
Install the module:
Install-Module CDSCmdlets
Connect to Microsoft Dataverse:
$cds = Connect-CDS -OrganizationUrl $OrganizationUrl -InitiateOAuth $InitiateOAuth
Once connected, you can query data using standard SQL like commands.
Example Query:
$results = Select-CDS ` -Connection $conn ` -Table "Accounts" ` -Columns "AccountId,Name" ` -Where "AccountId != ''"
Display the results:
$results
You have now successfully accessed Microsoft Dataverse data from PowerShell!
