Leverage existing skills by using the JDBC standard to read and write to Dynamics CRM: Through drop-in integration into ETL tools like Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), the CData JDBC Driver for Dynamics CRM connects real-time Dynamics CRM data to your data warehouse, business intelligence, and Big Data technologies.
JDBC connectivity enables you to work with Dynamics CRM just as you would any other database in ODI. As with an RDBMS, you can use the driver to connect directly to the Dynamics CRM APIs in real time instead of working with flat files.
This article covers a JDBC-based ETL -- Dynamics CRM to Oracle. After reverse engineering a data model of Dynamics CRM entities, you will create a mapping and select a data loading strategy -- since the driver supports SQL-92, this last step can easily be accomplished by selecting the built-in SQL to SQL Loading Knowledge Module.
CData simplifies access and integration of live Microsoft Dynamics CRM data. Our customers leverage CData connectivity to:
CData customers use our Dynamics CRM connectivity solutions for a variety of reasons, whether they're looking to replicate their data into a data warehouse (alongside other data sources) or analyze live Dynamics CRMa data from their preferred data tools inside the Microsoft ecosystem (Power BI, Excel, etc.) or with external tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.).
To install the driver, copy the driver JAR (cdata.jdbc.dynamicscrm.jar) and .lic file (cdata.jdbc.dynamicscrm.lic), located in the installation folder, into the ODI appropriate directory:
Restart ODI to complete the installation.
Reverse engineering the model retrieves metadata about the driver's relational view of Dynamics CRM data. After reverse engineering, you can query real-time Dynamics CRM data and create mappings based on Dynamics CRM tables.
The connection string options meet the authentication and connection requirements of different Dynamics CRM instances. To connect to your instance, set the User and Password properties, under the Authentication section, to valid Dynamics CRM user credentials and set the Url to a valid Dynamics CRM server organization root. Additionally, set the CRMVersion property to 'CRM2011+' or 'CRMOnline'. IFD configurations are supported as well; set InternetFacingDeployment to true.
Additionally, you can provide the security token service (STS) or AD FS endpoint in the STSURL property. This value can be retrieved with the GetSTSUrl stored procedure. Office 365 users can connect to the default STS URL by simply setting CRMVersion.
For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Dynamics CRM JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.
java -jar cdata.jdbc.dynamicscrm.jar
Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.
π Using the built-in connection string designer to generate a JDBC URL (Salesforce is shown.)Below is a typical connection string:
jdbc:dynamicscrm:User=myuseraccount;Password=mypassword;URL=https://myOrg.crm.dynamics.com/;CRM Version=CRM Online;
After reverse engineering you can now work with Dynamics CRM data in ODI.
To edit and save Dynamics CRM data, expand the Models accordion in the Designer navigator, right-click a table, and click Data. Click Refresh to pick up any changes to the data. Click Save Changes when you are finished making changes.
π Viewing the data.
Follow the steps below to create an ETL from Dynamics CRM. You will load Account entities into the sample data warehouse included in the ODI Getting Started VM.
Open SQL Developer and connect to your Oracle database. Right-click the node for your database in the Connections pane and click new SQL Worksheet.
Alternatively you can use SQLPlus. From a command prompt enter the following:
sqlplus / as sysdba
CREATE TABLE ODI_DEMO.TRG_ACCOUNT (NUMBEROFEMPLOYEES NUMBER(20,0),FirstName VARCHAR2(255));
You can then run the mapping to load Dynamics CRM data into Oracle.
