Adobe ColdFusion is a web and mobile application development platform. It uses its own scripting language, ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML), to create data-driven websites as well as generate remote services, such as REST. When ColdFusion is paired with the CData ODBC Driver for Dynamics CRM, you can link your ColdFusion web and mobile applications to operational Dynamics CRM data. This allows for your applications to be more robust and complete. This article details how to use the ODBC driver to create a table populated with Dynamics CRM data from within a ColdFusion markup file.
CData simplifies access and integration of live Microsoft Dynamics CRM data. Our customers leverage CData connectivity to:
CData customers use our Dynamics CRM connectivity solutions for a variety of reasons, whether they're looking to replicate their data into a data warehouse (alongside other data sources) or analyze live Dynamics CRMa data from their preferred data tools inside the Microsoft ecosystem (Power BI, Excel, etc.) or with external tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.).
To follow along with this tutorial, you need to install the CData ODBC Driver for Dynamics CRM and Adobe ColdFusion.
If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (Data Source Name). This is the last step of the driver installation process. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.
The connection string options meet the authentication and connection requirements of different Dynamics CRM instances. To connect to your instance, set the User and Password properties, under the Authentication section, to valid Dynamics CRM user credentials and set the Url to a valid Dynamics CRM server organization root. Additionally, set the CRMVersion property to 'CRM2011+' or 'CRMOnline'. IFD configurations are supported as well; set InternetFacingDeployment to true.
Additionally, you can provide the security token service (STS) or AD FS endpoint in the STSURL property. This value can be retrieved with the GetSTSUrl stored procedure. Office 365 users can connect to the default STS URL by simply setting CRMVersion.
After creating a DSN, follow the steps below to add a new data source, test our connection to it, create a ColdFusion markup file, and, finally, import Dynamics CRM Data and display it in a table in ColdFusion:
The following code queries the data source:
<cfquery name="Dynamics CRMQuery" dataSource="CDataDynamics CRMODBC"> SELECT * FROM Account </cfquery>And a CFTable can be used to quickly output the table in HTML:
<cftable query = "Dynamics CRMQuery" border = "1" colHeaders colSpacing = "2" headerLines = "2" HTMLTable maxRows = "500" startRow = "1"> <cfcol header="<b>FirstName</b>" align="Left" width=2 text="FirstName"/> <cfcol header="<b>NumberOfEmployees</b>" align="Left" width=15 text="NumberOfEmployees"/> ... </cftable>Full code, including the HTML portion is available below:
<html>
<head><title>CData Software | Dynamics CRM Account Table Demo </title></head>
<body>
<cfoutput>#ucase("Dynamics CRM Account Table Demo")#</cfoutput>
<cfquery name="Dynamics CRMQuery" dataSource="CDataDynamics CRMODBC">
SELECT * FROM Account
</cfquery>
<cftable
query = "Dynamics CRMQuery"
border = "1"
colHeaders
colSpacing = "2"
headerLines = "2"
HTMLTable
maxRows = "500"
startRow = "1">
<cfcol header="<b>FirstName</b>" align="Left" width=2 text="FirstName"/>
<cfcol header="<b>NumberOfEmployees</b>" align="Left" width=15 text="NumberOfEmployees"/>
...
</cftable>
</body>
</html>
As a note, the CData ODBC Drivers also support parameterized queries using the cfqueryparam element. For example:
SELECT * FROM Account WHERE name =
