Nintex Workflow Cloud is a cloud-based platform where you can design workflows to automate simple or complex processes using drag-and-drop interactions β without writing any code. When paired with CData Connect AI, you get instant, cloud-to-cloud access to Elasticsearch data for business applications. This article shows how to create a virtual database for Elasticsearch in Connect AI and build a simple workflow from Elasticsearch data in Nintex.
CData Connect AI provides a pure, cloud-to-cloud interface for Elasticsearch, allowing you to build workflows from live Elasticsearch data in Nintex Workflow Cloud β without replicating the data to a natively supported database. Nintex allows you to access data directly using SQL queries. Using optimized data processing out of the box, CData Connect AI pushes all supported SQL operations (filters, JOINs, etc.) directly to Elasticsearch, leveraging server-side processing to quickly return the requested Elasticsearch data.
Accessing and integrating live data from Elasticsearch has never been easier with CData. Customers rely on CData connectivity to:
Users frequently integrate Elasticsearch data with analytics tools such as Crystal Reports, Power BI, and Excel, and leverage our tools to enable a single, federated access layer to all of their data sources, including Elasticsearch.

Connectivity to Elasticsearch from Nintex is made possible through CData Connect AI. To work with Elasticsearch data from Nintex, we start by creating and configuring a Elasticsearch connection.
Set the Server and Port connection properties to connect. To authenticate, set the User and Password properties, PKI (public key infrastructure) properties, or both. To use PKI, set the SSLClientCert, SSLClientCertType, SSLClientCertSubject, and SSLClientCertPassword properties.
The data provider uses X-Pack Security for TLS/SSL and authentication. To connect over TLS/SSL, prefix the Server value with 'https://'. Note: TLS/SSL and client authentication must be enabled on X-Pack to use PKI.
Once the data provider is connected, X-Pack will then perform user authentication and grant role permissions based on the realms you have configured.
π Configuring a connection (Salesforce is shown)When connecting to Connect AI through the REST API, the OData API, or the Virtual SQL Server, a Personal Access Token (PAT) is used to authenticate the connection to Connect AI. It is best practice to create a separate PAT for each service to maintain granularity of access.
With the connection configured and a PAT generated, you are ready to connect to Elasticsearch data from Nintex Workflow Cloud.
The steps below outline creating a new connection to Elasticsearch data from Nintex (via Connect AI).
With the connection to CData Connect AI configured, we are ready to build a simple workflow to access Elasticsearch data. Start by clicking the "Create workflow" button.
Once you configure the actions, click "Save," name the Workflow, and click "Save" again. You now have a simple workflow that will query Elasticsearch using SQL and sand an email with the results.
