The CData JDBC driver for Elasticsearch is easy to integrate with Java Web applications. This article shows how to efficiently connect to Elasticsearch data in Jetty by configuring the driver for connection pooling. You will configure a JNDI resource for Elasticsearch in Jetty.
Accessing and integrating live data from Elasticsearch has never been easier with CData. Customers rely on CData connectivity to:
Users frequently integrate Elasticsearch data with analytics tools such as Crystal Reports, Power BI, and Excel, and leverage our tools to enable a single, federated access layer to all of their data sources, including Elasticsearch.

Follow the steps below to connect to Salesforce from Jetty.
Enable the JNDI module for your Jetty base. The following command enables JNDI from the command-line:
java -jar ../start.jar --add-to-startd=jndi
Declare the resource and its scope. Enter the required connection properties in the resource declaration. This example declares the Elasticsearch data source at the level of the Web app, in WEB-INF\jetty-env.xml.
<Configure id='elasticsearchdemo' class="org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <New id="elasticsearchdemo" class="org.eclipse.jetty.plus.jndi.Resource"> <Arg><Ref refid="elasticsearchdemo"/></Arg> <Arg>jdbc/elasticsearchdb</Arg> <Arg> <New class="cdata.jdbc.elasticsearch.ElasticsearchDriver"> <Set name="url">jdbc:elasticsearch:</Set> <Set name="Server">127.0.0.1</Set> <Set name="Port">9200</Set> <Set name="User">admin</Set> <Set name="Password">123456</Set> </New> </Arg> </New> </Configure>
Set the Server and Port connection properties to connect. To authenticate, set the User and Password properties, PKI (public key infrastructure) properties, or both. To use PKI, set the SSLClientCert, SSLClientCertType, SSLClientCertSubject, and SSLClientCertPassword properties.
The data provider uses X-Pack Security for TLS/SSL and authentication. To connect over TLS/SSL, prefix the Server value with 'https://'. Note: TLS/SSL and client authentication must be enabled on X-Pack to use PKI.
Once the data provider is connected, X-Pack will then perform user authentication and grant role permissions based on the realms you have configured.
Configure the resource in the Web.xml:
jdbc/elasticsearchdb javax.sql.DataSource Container
You can then access Elasticsearch with a lookup to java:comp/env/jdbc/elasticsearchdb:
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
DataSource myelasticsearch = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/elasticsearchdb");
The steps above show how to configure the driver in a simple connection pooling scenario. For more use cases and information, see the Working with Jetty JNDI chapter in the Jetty documentation.
