The CData JDBC Driver for Excel Online enables you to execute queries to Excel Online data in tools like Squirrel SQL Client. In this article, you will create a JDBC data source for Excel Online data and execute queries.
Follow the steps below to add the driver JAR.
Follow the steps below to save connection properties in the driver alias.
In the Add Alias wizard that opens, the following fields are required for the JDBC driver:
You can connect to a workbook by providing authentication to Excel Online and then setting the following properties:
: Set this to the name or Id of the workbook.
If you want to view a list of information about the available workbooks, execute a query to the Workbooks view after you authenticate.
You use the OAuth authentication standard to authenticate to Excel Online. See the Getting Started section in the help documentation for a guide. Getting Started also guides you through executing SQL to worksheets and ranges.
Below is a typical connection string:

After the metadata has loaded, a new tab for the Excel Online data source is displayed. On the Objects subtab, you can discover schema information, such as the available tables and views.

To view table data, select the table on the Objects tab. The table data is then loaded in a grid on the Content tab.
