FileMaker Pro is a cross-platform relational database application that allows users to visually modify a database. When paired with CData Connect AI, FileMaker Pro gets access to live GitHub data. This article demonstrates how to connect to GitHub using Connect AI and query GitHub data in FileMaker Pro.
CData Connect AI provides a pure SQL Server interface for GitHub, allowing you to query data from GitHub without replicating the data to a natively supported database. Using optimized data processing out of the box, CData Connect AI pushes all supported SQL operations (filters, JOINs, etc.) directly to GitHub, leveraging server-side processing to return the requested GitHub data quickly.
Connectivity to GitHub from FileMaker Pro is made possible through CData Connect AI. To work with GitHub data from FileMaker Pro, we start by creating and configuring a GitHub connection.
GitHub uses the OAuth 2 authentication standard. To authenticate using OAuth, create an app to obtain the OAuthClientId, OAuthClientSecret, and CallbackURL connection properties. See the Getting Started chapter of the CData help documentation for an authentication guide.
When connecting to Connect AI through the REST API, the OData API, or the Virtual SQL Server, a Personal Access Token (PAT) is used to authenticate the connection to Connect AI. It is best practice to create a separate PAT for each service to maintain granularity of access.
With the connection configured and a PAT generated, you are ready to connect to GitHub data from Filemaker Pro.
To establish a connection from FileMaker Pro to the CData Connect AI Virtual SQL Server API, follow these steps.
