Leverage the CData Connect AI Remote MCP Server to enable ChatGPT to securely answer questions and take actions on your Jira Service Management data for you.

ChatGPT is an AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, launched in November 2022. Based on large language models (LLMs), it enables users to refine and steer conversations through natural language processing. ChatGPT's developer mode, available to Plus and Pro subscribers, provides full Model Context Protocol (MCP) support for connecting to external data sources and tools.

CData Connect AI offers a dedicated cloud-to-cloud interface for connecting to Jira Service Management data. The CData Connect AI Remote MCP Server enables secure communication between ChatGPT and Jira Service Management. This allows you to ask questions and take actions on your Jira Service Management data using ChatGPT, all without the need for data replication to a natively supported database. With its inherent optimized data processing capabilities, CData Connect AI efficiently channels all supported SQL operations, including filters and JOINs, directly to Jira Service Management. This leverages server-side processing to swiftly deliver the requested Jira Service Management data.

Step 1: Configure Jira Service Management Connectivity for ChatGPT

Connectivity to Jira Service Management from ChatGPT is made possible through CData Connect AI Remote MCP. To interact with Jira Service Management data from ChatGPT, we start by creating and configuring a Jira Service Management connection in CData Connect AI.

  1. Log into your Connect AI account, click Sources, and then click Add Connection.
  2. πŸ‘ Adding a Connection
  3. Select "Jira Service Management" from the Add Connection panel.
  4. πŸ‘ Selecting a data source
  5. Enter the necessary authentication properties to connect to Jira Service Management.

You can establish a connection to any Jira Service Desk Cloud account or Server instance.

    Connecting with a Cloud Account

To connect to a Cloud account, you'll first need to retrieve an APIToken. To generate one, log in to your Atlassian account and navigate to API tokens > Create API token. The generated token will be displayed.

Supply the following to connect to data:

    • User: Set this to the username of the authenticating user.
    • APIToken: Set this to the API token found previously.

    Connecting with a Service Account

To authenticate with a service account, supply the following connection properties:

    • User: Set this to the username of the authenticating user.
    • Password: Set this to the password of the authenticating user.
    • URL: Set this to the URL associated with your JIRA Service Desk endpoint. For example, https://yoursitename.atlassian.net.

Note: Password has been deprecated for connecting to a Cloud Account and is now used only to connect to a Server Instance.

    Accessing Custom Fields

By default, the connector only surfaces system fields. To access the custom fields for Issues, set IncludeCustomFields.
