The CData JDBC driver for Lakebase is easy to integrate with Java Web applications. This article shows how to efficiently connect to Lakebase data in Jetty by configuring the driver for connection pooling. You will configure a JNDI resource for Lakebase in Jetty.
Follow the steps below to connect to Salesforce from Jetty.
Enable the JNDI module for your Jetty base. The following command enables JNDI from the command-line:
java -jar ../start.jar --add-to-startd=jndi
Declare the resource and its scope. Enter the required connection properties in the resource declaration. This example declares the Lakebase data source at the level of the Web app, in WEB-INF\jetty-env.xml.
<Configure id='lakebasedemo' class="org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <New id="lakebasedemo" class="org.eclipse.jetty.plus.jndi.Resource"> <Arg><Ref refid="lakebasedemo"/></Arg> <Arg>jdbc/lakebasedb</Arg> <Arg> <New class="cdata.jdbc.lakebase.LakebaseDriver"> <Set name="url">jdbc:lakebase:</Set> <Set name="DatabricksInstance">lakebase</Set> <Set name="Server">127.0.0.1</Set> <Set name="Port">5432</Set> <Set name="Database">my_database</Set> <Set name="InitiateOAuth">GETANDREFRESH</Set> </New> </Arg> </New> </Configure>To connect to Databricks Lakebase, start by setting the following properties:
To authenicate using OAuth client credentials, you need to configure an OAuth client in your service principal. In short, you need to do the following:
For more information, refer to the Setting Up OAuthClient Authentication section in the Help documentation.
To authenticate using the OAuth code type with PKCE (Proof Key for Code Exchange), set the following properties:
For more information, refer to the Help documentation.
Configure the resource in the Web.xml:
jdbc/lakebasedb javax.sql.DataSource Container
You can then access Lakebase with a lookup to java:comp/env/jdbc/lakebasedb:
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
DataSource mylakebase = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/lakebasedb");
The steps above show how to configure the driver in a simple connection pooling scenario. For more use cases and information, see the Working with Jetty JNDI chapter in the Jetty documentation.
