The CData JDBC driver for MailChimp is easy to integrate with Java Web applications. This article shows how to efficiently connect to MailChimp data in Jetty by configuring the driver for connection pooling. You will configure a JNDI resource for MailChimp in Jetty.
Follow the steps below to connect to Salesforce from Jetty.
Enable the JNDI module for your Jetty base. The following command enables JNDI from the command-line:
java -jar ../start.jar --add-to-startd=jndi
Declare the resource and its scope. Enter the required connection properties in the resource declaration. This example declares the MailChimp data source at the level of the Web app, in WEB-INF\jetty-env.xml.
<Configure id='mailchimpdemo' class="org.eclipse.jetty.webapp.WebAppContext"> <New id="mailchimpdemo" class="org.eclipse.jetty.plus.jndi.Resource"> <Arg><Ref refid="mailchimpdemo"/></Arg> <Arg>jdbc/mailchimpdb</Arg> <Arg> <New class="cdata.jdbc.mailchimp.MailChimpDriver"> <Set name="url">jdbc:mailchimp:</Set> <Set name="APIKey">myAPIKey</Set> </New> </Arg> </New> </Configure>
You can set the APIKey to the key you generate in your account settings, or, instead of providing your APIKey, you can use the OAuth standard to authenticate the application. OAuth can be used to enable other users to access their own data. To authenticate using OAuth, obtain the OAuthClientId, OAuthClientSecret, and CallbackURL by registering an app with MailChimp.
See the "Getting Started" chapter in the help documentation for a guide to using OAuth.
Configure the resource in the Web.xml:
jdbc/mailchimpdb javax.sql.DataSource Container
You can then access MailChimp with a lookup to java:comp/env/jdbc/mailchimpdb:
InitialContext ctx = new InitialContext();
DataSource mymailchimp = (DataSource)ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jdbc/mailchimpdb");
The steps above show how to configure the driver in a simple connection pooling scenario. For more use cases and information, see the Working with Jetty JNDI chapter in the Jetty documentation.
