Create a Data Source for Monday.com in DataGrip and use SQL to query live Monday.com data.

DataGrip is a database IDE that allows SQL developers to query, create, and manage databases. When paired with the CData JDBC Driver for Monday.com, DataGrip can work with live Monday.com data. This article shows how to establish a connection to Monday.com data in DataGrip.

Create a New Driver Definition for Monday.com

The steps below describe how to create a new Data Source in DataGrip for Monday.com.

  1. In DataGrip, click File -> New > Project and name the project πŸ‘ Creating a new DataGrip project.
  2. In the Database Explorer, click the plus icon () and select Driver. πŸ‘ Adding a new Driver.
  3. In the Driver tab:
    • Set Name to a user-friendly name (e.g. "CData Monday.com Driver")
    • Set Driver Files to the appropriate JAR file. To add the file, click the plus (), select "Add Files," navigate to the "lib" folder in the driver's installation directory and select the JAR file (e.g. cdata.jdbc.monday.jar).
    • Set Class to cdata.jdbc.monday.Monday.jar
  4. Click "Apply" then "OK" to save the Connection πŸ‘ A configured Driver (Salesforce is shown).

Configure a Connection to Monday.com

  1. Once the connection is saved, click the plus (), then "Data Source" then "CData Monday.com Driver" to create a new Monday.com Data Source.
  2. In the new window, configure the connection to Monday.com with a JDBC URL.

    Built-in Connection String Designer

    For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Monday.com JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

     java -jar cdata.jdbc.monday.jar
     

    Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

    You can connect to Monday.com using either API Token authentication or OAuth authentication.

    Connecting with an API Token

    Connect to Monday.com by specifying the APIToken. Set the AuthScheme to Token and obtain the APIToken as follows:

    • API tokens for admin users
      1. Log in to your Monday.com account and click on your avatar in the bottom left corner.
      2. Select Admin.
      3. Select "API" on the left side of the Admin page.
      4. Click the "Copy" button to copy the user's API token.
    • API tokens for non-admin users
      1. Click on your profile picture in the bottom left of your screen.
      2. Select "Developers"
      3. Click "Developer" and then "My Access Tokens" at the top.
      4. Select "Show" next to the API token, where you'll be able to copy it.

    Connecting with OAuth Authentication

    Alternatively, you can establish a connection using OAuth (refer to the OAuth section of the Help documentation).

  3. Set URL to the connection string, e.g.,
    jdbc:monday:APIToken=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.yJ0aWQiOjE0MTc4NzIxMiwidWlkIjoyNzI3ODM3OSwiaWFkIjoiMjAyMi0wMS0yMFQxMDo0NjoxMy45NDFaIiwicGV;
  4. Click "Apply" and "OK" to save the connection string πŸ‘ A configured Data Source (Salesforce is shown).

At this point, you will see the data source in the Data Explorer.

Execute SQL Queries Against Monday.com

To browse through the Monday.com entities (available as tables) accessible through the JDBC Driver, expand the Data Source.

To execute queries, right click on any table and select "New" -> "Query Console."
