datapine is a browser-based business intelligence platform. When paired with the CData Connect AI, you get access to your MySQL data directly from your datapine visualizations and dashboards. This article describes connecting to MySQL in CData Connect AI and building a simple MySQL-connected visualization in datapine.
CData Connect AI provides a pure SQL Server interface for MySQL, allowing you to query data from MySQL without replicating the data to a natively supported database. Using optimized data processing out of the box, CData Connect AI pushes all supported SQL operations (filters, JOINs, etc.) directly to MySQL, leveraging server-side processing to return the requested MySQL data quickly.
Connectivity to MySQL from datapine is made possible through CData Connect AI. To work with MySQL data from datapine, we start by creating and configuring a MySQL connection.
The CData Provider supports connecting to on-premises and cloud-hosted versions of MySQL such as Amazon RDS for MySQL, Google Cloud SQL for MySQL, Azure Database for MySQL, or Oracle MySQL HeatWave. The Server and Port properties must be set to a MySQL server. If IntegratedSecurity is set to false, then User and Password must be set to valid user credentials. Optionally, Database can be set to connect to a specific database. If not set, tables from all databases will be returned.
You can use SSH (Secure Shell) to authenticate with MySQL, whether the instance is hosted on-premises or in supported cloud environments. SSH authentication ensures that access is encrypted (as compared to direct network connections).
To connect to MySQL via SSH in Password Auth mode, set the following connection properties:

When connecting to Connect AI through the REST API, the OData API, or the Virtual SQL Server, a Personal Access Token (PAT) is used to authenticate the connection to Connect AI. It is best practice to create a separate PAT for each service to maintain granularity of access.
With the connection configured and a PAT generated, you are ready to connect to MySQL data from datapine.
Once you configure your connection to MySQL in Connect AI, you are ready to connect to MySQL from datapine.
After connecting to CData Connect AI, you are ready to visualize your MySQL data in datapine. Simply select the dimensions and measures you wish to visualize!
