The CData JDBC Driver for Power BI XMLA data enables access to live data from dashboards and reports as if Power BI XMLA were a relational database, allowing you to query Power BI XMLA data using familiar SQL queries. This article shows how to connect to Power BI XMLA data as a JDBC data source and create reports based on Power BI XMLA data in JReport Designer.
... set ADDCLASSPATH=%JAVAHOME%\lib\tools.jar;C:\Program Files\CData\CData JDBC Driver for Power BI XMLA 2016\lib\cdata.jdbc.powerbixmla.jar; ...
cdata.jdbc.powerbixmla.PowerBIXMLADriver
By default, use Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) to connect to Microsoft Power BI XMLA. Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) is Microsoft's multi-tenant, cloud-based directory and identity management service. It is user-based authentication that requires that you set AuthScheme to EntraID (formerly AzureAD).
For more information on other authentication schemes, refer to the Help documentation.
For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Power BI XMLA JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.
java -jar cdata.jdbc.powerbixmla.jar
Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.
π Using the built-in connection string designer to generate a JDBC URL (Salesforce is shown.)When you configure the JDBC URL, you may also want to set the Max Rows connection property. This will limit the number of rows returned, which is especially helpful for improving performance when designing reports and visualizations.
Below is a typical JDBC URL:
jdbc:powerbixmla:AuthScheme=EntraID;InitiateOAuth=GETANDREFRESH;
In the Add Table dialog, select the tables you wish to include in your report (or in future reports using this data source) and click Add.
π Adding Tables. (Salesforce is shown.)Click Done once the dialog has completed loading the tables.
SELECT Country, Education FROM Customer WHERE Country = 'Australia'π Editing the query. (Salesforce is shown.)
With the query built, click OK to close the Query Editor dialog. At this point you are ready to add Power BI XMLA data to a new or existing report.
NOTE: Now that the query is built, you can create a Business View based on the query. With a Business View, you can create Web reports or library components based on the query. For more information on this, refer to the JReport tutorials.
You are now ready to create a report with Power BI XMLA data.
