Adobe ColdFusion is a web and mobile application development platform. It uses its own scripting language, ColdFusion Markup Language (CFML), to create data-driven websites as well as generate remote services, such as REST. When ColdFusion is paired with the CData ODBC Driver for Presto, you can link your ColdFusion web and mobile applications to operational Presto data. This allows for your applications to be more robust and complete. This article details how to use the ODBC driver to create a table populated with Presto data from within a ColdFusion markup file.
Accessing and integrating live data from Trino and Presto SQL engines has never been easier with CData. Customers rely on CData connectivity to:
Presto and Trino allow users to access a variety of underlying data sources through a single endpoint. When paired with CData connectivity, users get pure, SQL-92 access to their instances, allowing them to integrate business data with a data warehouse or easily access live data directly from their preferred tools, like Power BI and Tableau.
In many cases, CData's live connectivity surpasses the native import functionality available in tools. One customer was unable to effectively use Power BI due to the size of the datasets needed for reporting. When the company implemented the CData Power BI Connector for Presto they were able to generate reports in real-time using the DirectQuery connection mode.
To follow along with this tutorial, you need to install the CData ODBC Driver for Presto and Adobe ColdFusion.
If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (Data Source Name). This is the last step of the driver installation process. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.
Set the Server and Port connection properties to connect, in addition to any authentication properties that may be required.
To enable TLS/SSL, set UseSSL to true.
In order to authenticate with LDAP, set the following connection properties:
In order to authenticate with KERBEROS, set the following connection properties:
After creating a DSN, follow the steps below to add a new data source, test our connection to it, create a ColdFusion markup file, and, finally, import Presto Data and display it in a table in ColdFusion:
The following code queries the data source:
<cfquery name="PrestoQuery" dataSource="CDataPrestoODBC"> SELECT * FROM Customer </cfquery>And a CFTable can be used to quickly output the table in HTML:
<cftable query = "PrestoQuery" border = "1" colHeaders colSpacing = "2" headerLines = "2" HTMLTable maxRows = "500" startRow = "1"> <cfcol header="<b>FirstName</b>" align="Left" width=2 text="FirstName"/> <cfcol header="<b>LastName</b>" align="Left" width=15 text="LastName"/> ... </cftable>Full code, including the HTML portion is available below:
<html>
<head><title>CData Software | Presto Customer Table Demo </title></head>
<body>
<cfoutput>#ucase("Presto Customer Table Demo")#</cfoutput>
<cfquery name="PrestoQuery" dataSource="CDataPrestoODBC">
SELECT * FROM Customer
</cfquery>
<cftable
query = "PrestoQuery"
border = "1"
colHeaders
colSpacing = "2"
headerLines = "2"
HTMLTable
maxRows = "500"
startRow = "1">
<cfcol header="<b>FirstName</b>" align="Left" width=2 text="FirstName"/>
<cfcol header="<b>LastName</b>" align="Left" width=15 text="LastName"/>
...
</cftable>
</body>
</html>
As a note, the CData ODBC Drivers also support parameterized queries using the cfqueryparam element. For example:
SELECT * FROM Account WHERE name =

๐ Presto IconThe Presto ODBC Driver is a powerful tool that allows you to connect with live data from Presto, directly from any applications that support ODBC connectivity.
Access Presto data like you would a database - read, write, and update Presto Tables, etc. through a standard ODBC Driver interface.
