MicroStrategy is an analytics and mobility platform that enables data-driven innovation. When you pair MicroStrategy with the CData JDBC Driver for Procore, you gain database-like access to live Procore data from MicroStrategy, expanding your reporting and analytics capabilities. In this article, we walk through adding Procore as a data source in MicroStrategy Desktop and creating a simple visualization of Procore data.
The CData JDBC Driver offers unmatched performance for interacting with live Procore data in MicroStrategy due to optimized data processing built into the driver. When you issue complex SQL queries from MicroStrategy to Procore, the driver pushes supported SQL operations, like filters and aggregations, directly to Procore and utilizes the embedded SQL engine to process unsupported operations (often SQL functions and JOIN operations) client-side. With built-in dynamic metadata querying, you can use native MicroStrategy data types to visualize and analyze Procore data.
In addition to connecting to Procore in MicroStrategy enterprise products, you can connect to Procore in MicroStrategy Desktop. Follow the steps below to add Procore data as a dataset using JDBC and create visualizations and reports of Procore data.
Start by setting the Profile connection property to the location of the Procore Profile on disk (e.g. C:\profiles\Procore.apip). Next, set the ProfileSettings connection property to the connection string for Procore (see below).
To authenticate to Procore, and connect to your own data or to allow other users to connect to their data, you can use the OAuth standard.
First, register an OAuth application with Procore. You can do so by logging to your Developer Account and going to Create New App. Follow all necessary steps to register your app. First create a new version of Sandbox Manifest and then promote it to Production in order to get your Production Crendentials. Your Oauth application will be assigned a client id and a client secret.
After setting the following connection properties, you are ready to connect:
For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Procore JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.
java -jar cdata.jdbc.api.jar
Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.
👁 Using the built-in connection string designer to generate a JDBC URL (Salesforce is shown.)When you configure the JDBC URL, you may also want to set the Max Rows connection property. This will limit the number of rows returned, which is especially helpful for improving performance when designing reports and visualizations.
A typical connection string follows:
JDBC;MSTR_JDBC_JAR_FOLDER=PATH\TO\JAR\;DRIVER=cdata.jdbc.api.APIDriver;URL={jdbc:api:Profile=C:\profiles\Procore.apip;Authscheme=OAuth;OAuthClientId=your_client_id;OAuthClientSecret=your_client_secret;CallbackUrl=your_callback_url;};
👁 Creating a new data source for Procore.Using the CData JDBC Driver for Procore in MicroStrategy Desktop, you can easily create robust visualizations and reports on Procore data.
