MicroStrategy is an analytics and mobility platform that enables data-driven innovation. When paired with the CData ODBC Driver for Procore, you gain database-like access to live Procore data from MicroStrategy, expanding your reporting and analytics capabilities. In this article, we walk through adding Procore as a data source in MicroStrategy Desktop and creating a simple visualization of Procore data.
The CData ODBC Driver offers unmatched performance for interacting with live Procore data in MicroStrategy due to optimized data processing built into the driver. When you issue complex SQL queries from MicroStrategy to Procore, the driver pushes supported SQL operations, like filters and aggregations, directly to Procore and utilizes the embedded SQL Engine to process unsupported operations (often SQL functions and JOIN operations) client-side. With built-in dynamic metadata querying, you can visualize and analyze Procore data using native MicroStrategy data types.
Information for connecting to Procore follows, along with different instructions for configuring a DSN in Windows and Linux environments.
Start by setting the Profile connection property to the location of the Procore Profile on disk (e.g. C:\profiles\Procore.apip). Next, set the ProfileSettings connection property to the connection string for Procore (see below).
To authenticate to Procore, and connect to your own data or to allow other users to connect to their data, you can use the OAuth standard.
First, register an OAuth application with Procore. You can do so by logging to your Developer Account and going to Create New App. Follow all necessary steps to register your app. First create a new version of Sandbox Manifest and then promote it to Production in order to get your Production Crendentials. Your Oauth application will be assigned a client id and a client secret.
After setting the following connection properties, you are ready to connect:
When you configure the DSN, you may also want to set the Max Rows connection property. This will limit the number of rows returned, which is especially helpful for improving performance when designing reports and visualizations.
If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (data source name). This is the last step of the driver installation. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.
If you are installing the CData ODBC Driver for Procore in a Linux environment, the driver installation predefines a system DSN. You can modify the DSN by editing the system data sources file (/etc/odbc.ini) and defining the required connection properties.
[CData API Sys] Driver = CData ODBC Driver for Procore Description = My Description Profile = C:\profiles\Procore.apip Authscheme = OAuth OAuthClientId = your_client_id OAuthClientSecret = your_client_secret CallbackUrl = your_callback_url
For specific information on using these configuration files, please refer to the help documentation (installed and found online).
In addition to connecting Procore in MicroStrategy enterprise products, you can connect to Procore in MicroStrategy Desktop. Follow the steps below to add Procore data as a dataset and create visualizations and reports of Procore data.
SELECT * FROM Companies👁 Querying Procore for data.
Using the CData ODBC Driver for Procore in MicroStrategy Desktop, you can easily create robust visualizations and reports on Procore data. Read our other articles on connecting to Procore in MicroStrategy and connecting to Procore in MicroStrategy Web for more examples.
