The CData ODBC Driver for QuickBooks enables you to link to QuickBooks data in Microsoft Power Query, ensuring that you see any updates. This article details how to use the ODBC driver to import QuickBooks data into Microsoft Power Query.
CData simplifies access and integration of live QuickBooks data. Our customers leverage CData connectivity to:
Customers regularly integrate their QuickBooks data with preferred tools, like Power BI, Tableau, or Excel, and integrate QuickBooks data into their database or data warehouse.
If you have not already, first specify connection properties in an ODBC DSN (data source name). This is the last step of the driver installation. You can use the Microsoft ODBC Data Source Administrator to create and configure ODBC DSNs.
When you are connecting to a local QuickBooks instance, you do not need to set any connection properties.
Requests are made to QuickBooks through the Remote Connector. The Remote Connector runs on the same machine as QuickBooks and accepts connections through a lightweight, embedded Web server. The server supports SSL/TLS, enabling users to connect securely from remote machines.
The first time you connect, authorize the Remote Connector with QuickBooks. See the "Getting Started" chapter of the help documentation for a guide.
Follow the steps below to import QuickBooks data using standard SQL:
From the ribbon in Excel, click Power Query -> From Other Data Sources -> From ODBC.
Provider=MSDASQL.1;Persist Security Info=False;DSN=CData QuickBooks Source
Enter the SELECT statement to import data with. For example:
SELECT Name, CustomerBalance FROM Customers👁 The ODBC connection string and SELECT query. (Salesforce is shown.)
Enter credentials, if required, and click Connect. The results of the query are displayed in the Query Editor Preview. You can combine queries from other data sources or refine the data with Power Query formulas. To load the query to the worksheet, click the Close and Load button.
