The CData ODBC Drivers can be used in any environment that supports loading an ODBC Driver. In this tutorial we will explore using the CData ODBC Driver for Reckon Accounts Hosted from within PyCharm. Included are steps for adding the CData ODBC Driver as a data source, as well as basic PyCharm code to query the data source and display results.
To begin, this tutorial will assume that you have already installed the CData ODBC Driver for Reckon Accounts Hosted as well as PyCharm.
Follow the steps below to add the pyodbc module to your project.
You can now connect with an ODBC connection string or a DSN. See the Getting Started section in the CData driver documentation for a guide to creating a DSN on your OS.
The connector makes requests to Reckon Accounts Hosted through OAuth. Specify the following connection properties:
CData provides an embedded OAuth application that simplifies OAuth desktop authentication. See the Help documentation for information on other OAuth authentication methods (web, headless, etc.), creating custom OAuth applications, and reasons for doing so.
Below is the syntax for a DSN:
[CData ReckonAccountsHosted Source] Driver = CData ODBC Driver for Reckon Accounts Hosted Description = My Description SubscriptionKey = my_subscription_key CountryVersion = 2021.R2.AU CompanyFile = Q:/CompanyName.QBW User = my_user Password = my_password CallbackURL = http://localhost:33333 OAuthClientId = my_oauth_client_id OAuthClientSecret = my_oauth_client_secret InitiateOAuth = GETANDREFRESH
Instantiate a Cursor and use the execute method of the Cursor class to execute any SQL statement.
import pyodbc
cnxn = pyodbc.connect('DRIVER={CData ODBC Driver for ReckonAccountsHosted};SubscriptionKey = my_subscription_key;CountryVersion = 2021.R2.AU;CompanyFile = Q:/CompanyName.QBW;User = my_user;Password = my_password;CallbackURL = http://localhost:33333;OAuthClientId = my_oauth_client_id;OAuthClientSecret = my_oauth_client_secret;InitiateOAuth = GETANDREFRESH;')
cursor = cnxn.cursor()
cursor.execute("SELECT Name, Balance FROM Accounts WHERE IsActive = 'true'")
rows = cursor.fetchall()
for row in rows:
print(row.Name, row.Balance)
After connecting to Reckon Accounts Hosted in PyCharm using the CData ODBC Driver, you will be able to build Python apps with access to Reckon Accounts Hosted data as if it were a standard database.
