Use wizards in DBArtisan to create a JDBC data source for Redshift.

The CData JDBC Driver for Redshift seamlessly integrates Redshift data into database management tools like DBArtisan by enabling you to access Redshift data as a database. This article shows how to create a JDBC source for Redshift in DBArtisan. You can then edit data visually and execute standard SQL.

Integrate Redshift Data into DBArtisan Projects

Follow the steps below to register Redshift data as a database instance in your project:

  1. In DBArtisan, click Data Source -> Register Datasource.
  2. Select Generic JDBC.
  3. Click Manage.
  4. In the resulting dialog, click New. Enter a name for the driver and click Add. In the resulting dialog, navigate to the driver JAR. The driver JAR is located in the lib subfolder of the installation directory. 👁 The JDBC driver definition in the Register Datasource wizard. (Salesforce is shown.)
  5. In the Connection URL box, enter credentials and other required connection properties in the JDBC URL.

To connect to Redshift, set the following:

    • : Set this to the host name or IP address of the cluster hosting the Database you want to connect to.
    • : Set this to the port of the cluster.
    • : Set this to the name of the database. Or, leave this blank to use the default database of the authenticated user.
    • : Set this to the username you want to use to authenticate to the Server.
    • : Set this to the password you want to use to authenticate to the Server.

You can obtain the and values in the AWS Management Console:

    1. Open the Amazon Redshift console (http://console.aws.amazon.com/redshift).
    2. On the Clusters page, click the name of the cluster.
    3. On the Configuration tab for the cluster, copy the cluster URL from the connection strings displayed.

    Built-in Connection String Designer

For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Redshift JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

    java -jar cdata.jdbc.redshift.jar

Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

Below is a typical connection string:

    jdbc:redshift:User=admin;Password=admin;Database=dev;Server=examplecluster.my.us-west-2.redshift.amazonaws.com;Port=5439;
  6. Finish the wizard to connect to Redshift data. Redshift entities are displayed in the Datasource Explorer.

You can now work with Redshift data as you work with any other database. See the driver help documentation for more information on the queries supported by the Redshift API.
