Connect to Sage 200 Data in JRuby

JRuby is a high-performance, stable, fully threaded Java implementation of the Ruby programming language. The CData JDBC Driver for Sage 200 makes it easy to integrate connectivity to live Sage 200 data in JRuby. This article shows how to create a simple JRuby app that connects to Sage 200 data, executes a query, and displays the results.

Configure a JDBC Connection to Sage 200 Data

Before creating the app, note the installation location for the JAR file for the JDBC Driver (typically C:\Program Files\CData\CData JDBC Driver for Sage 200\lib).

JRuby natively supports JDBC, so you can easily connect to Sage 200 and execute SQL queries. Initialize the JDBC connection with the getConnection function of the java.sql.DriverManager class.

• Schema: Determines which Sage 200 edition you are connecting to. Specify either StandardUK or ProfessionalUK.
• Subscription Key: Provides access to the APIs that are used to establish a connection. You will first need to log into the Sage 200 API website and subscribe to the API edition that matches your account. You can do so here: https://developer.columbus.sage.com/docs/services/api/uk. Afterwards, the subscription key may be found in your profile after logging into Sage 200.

Built-in Connection String Designer

For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Sage 200 JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

Create a JRuby App with Connectivity to Sage 200 Data

Create a new Ruby file (for example: Sage200Select.rb) and open it in a text editor. Copy the following code into your file:
