JRuby is a high-performance, stable, fully threaded Java implementation of the Ruby programming language. The CData JDBC Driver for Sage 300 makes it easy to integrate connectivity to live Sage 300 data in JRuby. This article shows how to create a simple JRuby app that connects to Sage 300 data, executes a query, and displays the results.
Before creating the app, note the installation location for the JAR file for the JDBC Driver (typically C:\Program Files\CData\CData JDBC Driver for Sage 300\lib).
JRuby natively supports JDBC, so you can easily connect to Sage 300 and execute SQL queries. Initialize the JDBC connection with the getConnection function of the java.sql.DriverManager class.
Sage 300 requires some initial setup in order to communicate over the Sage 300 Web API.
Authenticate to Sage 300 using Basic authentication.
You must provide values for the following properties to successfully authenticate to Sage 300. Note that the provider reuses the session opened by Sage 300 using cookies. This means that your credentials are used only on the first request to open the session. After that, cookies returned from Sage 300 are used for authentication.
For assistance in constructing the JDBC URL, use the connection string designer built into the Sage 300 JDBC Driver. Either double-click the JAR file or execute the jar file from the command-line.

Fill in the connection properties and copy the connection string to the clipboard.

Create a new Ruby file (for example: Sage300Select.rb) and open it in a text editor. Copy the following code into your file:

With the file completed, you are ready to display your Sage 300 data with JRuby. To do so, simply run your file from the command line:
